Amen, You can fill the Gorge with windmills and the power generated will be a small fraction of what could easily be achieved using nuclear power without the negative impacts of the wind generation infrastructure.

For all those that dream of the electric car, better have a better plan than wind farms, as plug in electrics will require a huge amount of additional generation beyond the scope of wind.

katosandog makes a good point about micro generation as well. These sources can have a tremendous impact on household energy use, though they are currently too expensive for most. Best of all they work like diversifying your financial portfolio; wide small scale generation reduces the required centralized infrastructure, and adds redundancy to our grid.

What to do with the waste from nuclear power? The "temporary" storage at Hanford isn't working. Do we really have feasible technology to process the harmful radiation out of the waste? Later generations will pay a higher price (poisoned natural resources, harmful mutations) than we are today. It would be great to drop it down a tube to the Earth's core or remove it entirely from the planet. We don't have feasible technology for this yet. How we're dealing with the waste right now is disgusting and irresponsible.

I am struck by the beautiful wind generators lining the horizon out east. Makes me feel like I'm in an episode of Star Trek. I'd like to see every town have its own wind generator with the electrical flow controlled by that township. Then the utilities would be less able to steal the energy for use by such energy/water-hogs, such as California.

I live in Southern Alberta, and what was once one of the most magnificent views of the Alberta Rockies that included a few picturesque mills is now ruined by HUNDREDS of them. They have reached the point where mills totally and completely overpower the panorama. Even the most ardent supporters of wind power are disappointed.

There's been a negligible increase in the number of local jobs supporting the industry, some landowners declare they have adversely affected the micro climate (less rainfall), and the toll on birds and bats is immense. Take a walk under a wind farm some time and count the bodies; it's frightful.

It’s time to start a new Government its called The TPG party (The Peoples Government). All issues are voted on by the people and determined by the people, not representatives. All issues are made public using the web and voted on using a web address identification number. It’s kind of like an SSN, everyone has one they would use when the vote. For those who have no internet they get a pamphlet, kind of like what they get now except their vote will REALLY matter. Look at IRAN, anyone remember our poor friend Gore? Something has to change before corporate and special interest ruins America completely. Take a look at our economy; it’s the residual effects from the largest rip-off the world has ever known. Our government is run by some of the richest men in America, most of them with a heavy interest in corporations. The same corporations that are accused of bilking the American investor out of billions. Want to know why our gas is so high; blame that on little Bush. His sweetheart deals with the Saudis for airspace rights and ground troops are to blame. As a matter of fact many of our current occupational rights where established after deals made by the Bush administration. Look at the timing and rise of fossil fuel prices and the correlation and occupation of Iraq. Who do you think has been paying for these expensive wars? The government paid for the war by raising prices and taxes without the approval of the American people. We are hostages of the government, paying for what many of us think is the wrong way to go about things. In this scenario we gain access to key military objective points, The Saudis and others get billions of American Dollars in return. Since the public is becoming more aware of alternative fuels and clean power the Bush administration set this up to rob the American people before the opportunity was gone. The transition is taking place now, electric cars, steam powered cars, and others are taking the place of gas, but not before the biggest rip-off the world has ever known happened. Where did all the money go? Think about all the fat cat executives and their offshore accounts now living all over the world with your money and now the US is falling apart because they took the dollars that supported our companies and cooked the books. Now are best corporations and land are being sold to foreign investors, who’s getting the money? No one, the companies where robbed and then sold off, all one big F*ck*gn rip-off.

I for one think special interests are going to run berserk in a populist government. You speak of alternative fuels - ethanol is one of the biggest scams ever and is completely and utterly the result of special interest influence.

How about having politicians taking common sense exams to qualify for election? What an abject failure rate that would be.

Technology has changed since the early days of Hanford. France has been a great example of nuclear waste handling, where all of the waste is converted to a solid, before being buried. No leaky containers to worry about.

I can pay my electric bill for 3 years for the cost of one of these devices, which produce enough power to run a bright light bulb, assuming constant 28mph wind speeds.

One or two of these would be great for charging your RV batteries while parked in the Gorge or Baha, but still not worth $2k a piece, maybe worth $200.

When are these so called environmentally concerned companies going to offer a product at a fair price that might actually get wide enough use to have an impact. Instead companies elect to offer these devices at huge markups.

If these sold for under $200 at Home Depot, they might actually sell some.
