I'm looking to use an adjustable outhaul for my largest sail. Can anyone tell me what knot to use to fasten the line to each side of my boom? Any help is greatly appreciated.

You don't attach the outhaul line to the boom. You attach each end to a pulley using a bowline. Running forward around the pulley is the line (or strap, in the case of the Sailworks kit) that you hold in your hand. One end terminates under clamp that holds the cleat, the other end runs through the cleat.

If you don't want to run the line under the clamp that holds the cleat, use a clove hitch.

Some older boom clamps don't have the small recess to allow for the tie off of the rope end. I've successfully used a double fisherman's knot on that free end. It holds well on wet carbon boom tubes or the pro-grip. An added benefit it that the knot allows for repositioning it should I need more or less line for different sails. RC

Knots in Topology are the spaces created exterior to what the general population thinks of as a knot. Would an ajdustable outhaul be one set up by a dyslexic topologist? I've tried typing ajdustable outhaul in all sorts of windows but have gotten no results. Right now I'm typing adjustable outhaul, but I think that it will bring up nothing but the usual shit.

Brucie, when it comes to you, a knot is what you have between your ears. And, yes, it created space -- and absolutely nothing else.

"...be one set up by a dyslexic topologist...?"

More likely, by you, though you're more accurately classified as a dyslexic goofologist.

"I've tried typing ajdustable [sic] outhaul in all sorts of windows but have gotten no results."

Why do you suppose that happened? (Take a wild guess, Brucie...)

The usual shit should be suitable for your intellect, big guy.

if you are trying to tie the outhaul to the boom use a prussic knot. http://images.ebsco.com/pob/summit/catalog/instr_prussic.pdf.
this knot is used by climbers and rope rescuers to tie onto the climbing rope. for an outhaul you only need 4 loops.
If your trying to tie the outer outhaul line to the pulley then use a bowline with the end tied off in a half hitch safety loop.

I notice they've changed the knot since going to the double-sided AO; their older page used a clove hitch, IIRC. I've always added an extra wrap and knot to the free end, just in case. I've never had one slip.
