Randy it's been a good year for me out at Sherman. 4 or 5 3.7 days and about 5 days of 4.2. About 20 more sessions on 4.7 and 5.2 all on a 80 Ltr bd. And what makes you think that you are not a dork? (Sorry I had to add that) See you soon, should be some good dawn patrol days coming up. L8r JT

It is an El Nino year, and there were a continuous stream of "eddies" off the coast that have caused a lot of SW wind. This has been favorable for TI, I imagine Berzerks, and especially Sherman. Sherman never blows everyday or constantly, but I really believe they have had a whole lot of high wind days and many sailable days. I believe Sherman has been the choice this year.

Most are agreeing the Peninsula and Waddell/Dav are having off years, They told me at Waddell that they had hardly had any wind for a month during June/July-quite unusual. Those areas are better on NW winds.

As for Maui, it is still below normal again this year.

Because of this, I always think when it is good, sail til you've got nothing left, or until dark if needbe-whatever, as you never know when it will really be that good again wherever you are. Everyplace has at least some great days, EVEN WASHOE LAKE! That's the payoff for all those slogfests.

Bad year if you are a wind snob, but plenty of sailable days if you aren't. Yesterday was another six-oh, big board day for me. Last year my 4.8 was my go-to sail, this year we're becoming strangers. Good news is there is a lot of great, larger (by Sherman standards) gear available. A list of ways to get on the water, in order of my personal preference:
1. Bigger board
2. Bigger sail
3. Get your butt on the water by 7 a.m. (brrrrr!)
4. Kite? (Sorry.)
5. Jetsk...nah!

Someone isn't getting out to Sherman on the windy days or getting there too late. I have sailed my 4.2 more this year than in the past 2 years combined! Granted, June and July haven't been as consistent but the windy days have been there..just look at the end of June, first week of July....7 days in a row, 4 of them on a 4.2.

As the previous blogger suggests, maybe it is time for a gear change?

Keep the faith Randy, the season isn't over yet!

Agree, windy year at Sherman. I've sailed there more this year than I have maybe ever. By the same token I've sailed the least at COY/3RD this year, usually I sail there 3 to 1 more than Sherman.

This year I've gone at least 3 times, WHEN IT WILL BE WINDY, and sailed the two fer. Evening session followed by AM session. Just look for SW aloft with strong SF Sac gradient and Sac temp around 85 to 95.

The peeps who stay there often are mostly talking about a great year, although maybe not so much recently.
