Yes, I've kited there. Need a boat to launch if you don't have a house lakeside. Winds are lighter then at Sherman and far more boat traffic. Some weeds in the shallows. I found it to be a far better place for kiting then windsurfing but don't let that stop you.

Frank's Tract used to be one of the delta islands. It flooded back in the 50's and was never re-drained so now it is like a lake. Frank's Tract is east of Sherman, along the San Jaoquin River. You can access it through Bethal Island off HWY 4 or by boat out of Discovery Bay. There were some major plans to dredge the tract and make another Discovery Bay type development on Bethal Island but that went belly up with the economy. Just roads, street lights & empty lots with utility lines sticking up out of the ground now. Good thing it went belly up because the morons were going to wait until after they built all the homes before the widened the tiny bridge to Bethal Island.

As Coach said, Franks Tract is now a lake that is surrounded by a waterway and a double levy, so it's impossible to access the lake without crossing the waterway and another levy. No vehicle access to the inner levy, that's why you need a boat to launch. It would be a great lake to WSurf if you could access it. We used to waterski there. |

It would be perfect to go with a house boat, used to sail the Franks Tract Regatta when younger. We would anchor there overnight on our way from Stockton to the bay on our small sail boat. It would be on average a bit lighter than the Rio areas. |
