For those of you who in Orange county who SUP when the wind is light, you may want to check out this thread about beach access:

http://www.standupzone.com/forum/index.php?topic=4500.0

There's at least one windsurfer on that thread who noted how sailors had dealt with beach access there in the past, so I figured there might be some SUPer's here who also would want to know.

I know most of you probably don't SUP, but perhaps you share my point of view that the ocean should be shared by all and as unregulated as possible.

Hope every one is getting wind and some waves!

thanks for input, I was able to SUP at Bolsa a couple of weeks ago, but was not allowed to add a sail to it.

I guess now I wont even be able to SUP...

Max

However, based on forum info maybe now I can kiteboard from there...

i advocate water access for kiters too, but totally facepalmed when I read that kiting would be allowed but SUP wouldn't (or, for that matter, windsurfing).

Bureaucrats. Ugh.

Don't be surprised if I've moved to another country in ten years.

SUP's have been lumped in with windsurfers and kiters here in Malibu. I haven't seen the lifeguards go ballistic like they did Friday in a long time. My mast broke before they got there, so I spoke with one of the guards. He was really pissed off about the kiters, sup'ers and wsurfers. The bullhorn was going off for about 30 minutes.

On the other hand, when I'm prone surfing at my favorite unregulated spot here, everyone from Laird to Kalama and their mama are paddling in. (no lifeguards) The respectful ones aren't the problem. But....It is getting nasty.

The way I see it is Kites should yield right of way to everyone in the water, wsurfers to everyone but kiters, sup'ers, to surfers and swimmers, and that leaves surfers to respect one another Rolling Eyes

Best to try to keep the burocrats out of the mix, by being respectful.

And there in lies the problem. We get a swell like the last one maybe 2-3 times a year and when it happens then people come out of the woodwork and everybody wants to get their share. Respect goes right out the window with the most aggro, greedy types getting all the set waves.
