1. Get up and read this post as you drink your coffee (which you are already doing).
2. Head to Stevenson for a great day sailing easterlies (I used my 4.7 yesterday).
3. Enjoy lunch at the nearby Mexican food joint in town which I hear is excellent...let me know if anyone has other recommendations for food in the area. Support the local businesses!
4. Head back to the Event Site in Hood River for 6:30 for Andy Brandt's informative Q&A session.
See you there!
Cheers,
Pete DeKay |

So the Stevenson sensor is as far off as the Swell City sensor is purported to be? Shouldn't we appeal to iW to recalibrate these sensors? It would provide a lot more motivation for folks to make the drive and support the local economies.

The Stevenson sensor does read high, but it's really the current that saps wind strength out there. I was on my 5.5 yesterday.
The best wind was from about 9 till 11. It was pretty good from 11 till
2 PM when it dropped off to 6.5 conditions. It was crowded!
Dispite that, I'm headed back this morning (which looks like a peak
in the 6.5 range) right now, because I am a wind whore and I know it.

consider Clatskanie for this afternoon. Maybe you could lead a group out there, Pete
It s already blowing as you can see
Peak winds should be from 4 to 7 or even til dark
From Stevenson not a bad drive leave by 1 or 2 and still lots of sailing |

High? HIGH? Peak (very brief) sensor average was mid 20s ... with the majority under 20 ... minus current ... minus sensor exaggeration ... we're talking mid-upper teens ambient net wind. Then Wed was 7.5-8.0, not 4.7, wind. Am I -- ironically -- the only one who thinks exaggeration will jade, rather than attract, people?

Yesterday I was acceptably powered on a 6.2 and 90l board between 12 and 1:30. The sensor shows a 20mph average for that period. With east winds that's about right. |

Pete,
You need to change #4 to:
4. Head back to Bob's Beach for a late afternoon westerly sailing session.
How often can you sail Easterlies and Westerlies on the same day at the same spot? |

Many of us observed whitecapping winds -- probably near 20 mph -- from the east and west, meeting along a N-S line at the main Roosevelt jetty 2-3 years ago. Several people observed a guy sail north, planing on port, to the Roosevelt jetty, where he jibed the board -- but not the sail -- and continued planing on port all the way back to Oregon. No joke.
Can you imagine crossing that line hooked to a kite, when the wind's only escape was straight up?

5.5 yesterday, 5.5 today, not great, but good enough
to get me on the water. Glad I was wrong. It's still hot though!

p.s eventually Stevenson went West today, by 6 PM it looks like it was
planable on a 5.5 again. Hope that is a good indicator.
