Hi there.
I am a Bump & Jump Bay Area CA sailor going to spend the last week of August in Cape Hatteras.
Although it does not look very promising, would like to rent some gear for a couple of days, at least... If it gets good, it will be everyday!!!
Any tips appreciated!!
Thanks in advance.

Yep...came out very poetic.
Last week from the 22 to the 29 we are renting a house next to the beach, Atlantic side.
The graphs show low 20's: 100 liters, 6.0??
Rental spots? Post Sesh Watering Holes?
As I said earlier, any tips appreciated. |

Drop a PM to hodad.andy............he can rent you gear and give you day-by-day advice on the best spots to sail. You can find him on this forum or through his "Lost in Hatteras" blog. If it's windy, you're going to have a great time! |

Yea, all the shops are open in Avon so you will have plenty of choose from for rental gear. All carry top of the line stuff too so you should be well set.
Late Aug is definitely not the windiest time of year, but who knows?! So far this year though, August has been fairly windy with strong late afternoon/early evening SW wind!
Good luck, and hope you score a windy OBX week while you are here!

The month of August is light, But on the other hand this is prime time for Hurricane's. Labor day is the most common time for Storm's in the past. Vacation insurance should be recommened in case of an evacution, which happeneds on the Island. Afternoon thermals do go off. Rental's are not a problem, Great folk's with Great advice, You might not want to leave. Hook in and Hold on! Va. sailor |

You'll definitely get warm air and water and waves of some sort.
You'll most likely get some wind over 10 knots.
You may or may not get any wind over 20 knots.
Basically, you are guaranteed fun on the water, but you won't know exactly what to expect and what gear to rent until you're down there. Stop and chat at the major shops: Ocean Air Watersports, Sailworld Cape Hatteras, Ride Hatteras, Hatteras Island Sail Shop, and Fox Watersports. _________________ James' Blog: Windsurfing Equipment Size Calculator

Hey Sergio-
Sweet... you never know about conditions in August... Could (literally) be anything, from HOT and no wind to HOT and hurricane force wind and waves! There's almost always a fun little wave to surf if the wind doesn't show up. One thing's for sure- leave the full suit at home and bring some trunks and sunscreen!
Rentals are very available, most every major brand is represented with all the shops out here. Shoot me a PM if you have questions about specific gear, I can point you in the right direction. It's probably best to just see what happens when you get here, though.
Watering holes... Sandbar in Buxton, and Froggy Dog in Avon are your best bets for local nightlife. An hour drive north gets you some actual nightlife up in Nag's Head, but make sure you bring a DD, 'cuz it's a loooong drive home late at night. There are always little hot spots, too, depending on what's going on at the time, so feel free to hit me up when you get here...

August of last year looks like it was mostly surfing, with a little bit of sailing thrown in the mix. Seems like we usually get at least one good batch of NE wind in August, so keep your fingers crossed... |

Thanks Andy for all the info. Cool blog by the way.
As you said, I will wait and see. With so many launching spots I am sure I'll get some TOW.
Sailworld Cape Hatters, is real close, like 4 miles from where we are staying.
I will sure swing by around the 23rd.
