Back in the day when I lived near Tacoma, I sailed at Browns Point on both north (summer) and south storm winds. Tide and current can be strong on the outside along with boat traffic at times. There was a small public park right at the lighthouse, don't know if that is still there, so check it out. |

Brown's Pt is a public park but the big lot belongs to the B.P.Improvement Club. It used to be accessible for the B.P. area residents via the gate. Still is I think. The building you see by the water is the club's. The small, & I mean small, parking area is just to the north... between the lot & the lighthouse keeper's house. The access road is tiny. You may not even notice it. I think best winds are in a clearing state, after a front moves thru. S.W. & often S. with the Puget Sound convergence zone north of Seattle. But I like some sun out there. You can sail any front. The kiters sail in all directions & the northerly breezes are excellent. But you need big gear to windsurf them. |
