I've sailed The Gorge for several years now, and I've never before seen (maybe just never noticed) the white crust that's collected over the past week or so on the shoreline rocks. If you look at http://www.hatchcam.com/ you can see it clearly.
Anybody seen this before on the Columbia? Anybody know for sure if this is just natural lime/mineral/hardwater deposits left behind as the water evaporated in our hot conditions, or the sign of something more ominous (agricultural runoff/nitrates)? |

This happens when the water is low for a few days. The water has been extra low for quite a few days. Looking at it close up it looks like it the moss or slime that has dried out. |

The water's down, plain and simple. I've seen it for 25 years, and will bet it's been there for eons. Its technical name is "dried slime".
