Dave I am not as nice as you. when I spoke to the kiter I thought I would at lest get I am sorry but all I got was a bad attitude after he all most hit you he jumped over a downed windsurfer not smart. all I am going to say is we need to get along and lose the attitude on both sides.
P.S It was hard to walk away when he was smirking at me |

What an idiot! This is why I don't sail the event site anymore. Those kinds of crowds are not worth contending with. But I guess that's the desired effect of behaving like that, isn't it? Never mind that the event site would be a great place to take my 10yr old son, who is a beginner.

How "reliable" is a kite jump, presuming a competent kiter? Our trajectory is not far from ballistic, can be influenced only moderately, and is not especially predictable because we're launching from a moving, morphing chunk of water. Kiters can launch from more predictable flat water, are being pulled skyward by their foil, get much greater clearance above an object, and can probably better influence their trajectory. Both are subject to gusts & lulls.
With all those variables, does being jumped by a kite pose a significantly lower risk than that posed by a WSer jumping over us? The latter I can better evaluate, and a comparison of the risks may help me evaluate how far I would go to protect myself.

I'm sure there's got to be some cool, respectful and ripping kiters around somewhere. So glad they have found their own special place somewhere else to do it as I have never seen them where I sail. |

Don't forget this street goes both ways. When a kiter bud was being dangerously and repeatedly harassed by a WSer, we tried to identify the offender to put a stop to it. Tolerating that $#!+ encourages it.
