adywind, be mindful as to when you use the 490 RDM with your big sails. i just had a day where it was blowing 6-20 from various directions to boot. my 490 standard was not so happy with a 9.0 sail. RDM's offer better low end performance, but are even less stable in puffy, rotary, nasty stuff i just experienced. i was thinking of how my past sails in that size, when i had formula stuff, would have eaten up the conditions much easier. having a soft mast is a double edged sword....

Thanks for the warning! I should have done that myself , but the OP is racing so I guess he is not interested in RDMs. I was aware of this problem that's why I was specifically after the Gulftech Italian made RDMs. They have been known to be the stiffest and the closest to constant curve 12 100% RDMs. I can confirm now this is true and my mast felt just slightly softer then the extremely stiff Powerex Speed which it replaces . I still have to use a tool to downhaul though. / I'm selling the 490 Powerex speed 100 which will be great for a Race sale but didn't fit in the curvy Retro/.
Anyway, back to the question -I think the OP may be better on the wider ISonic for the sail size and considering his weight . For 2012 the SS evolved wider 80cm and shorter again so I guess that's the way to go.
