Hey just wondering if anyone can tell me if there are some good spots to sail in Antigua gonna be there from December 26th to Jan 3rd. Any places to rent gear, and good spots, anyone...?

any insight would be highly appreciated.

Ahhh, Antigua, one beautiful island, scenic, rugged and steeped in history, definitely a worthwhile destination in the caribbean. Antigua is more of yacht racing destination than a windsurfing one, it's the site ofsome major regattas, the oldest of which is Antigua sailing week,This event is famous for its size, quality of entries, and the parties, did I mention that it is also very windy there. I Raced on a Swan 65 , a few years ago,it was a bareboat charter, but came with the charter crew along for the ride, and local knowledge.Remember one design racing in the Windsurfer class or on Mistral Superlights? Well picture hardening up on the line at the final countdown with 8 Swan 65's on your hip, what a rush. While stowing uneeded gear in a shore locker to lighten up the boat for racing,I spotted a litlle used shortboard and rig, and managed to get it aboard and stowed for after race fun. This race week has a great combination of around the buoys and distance racing, so you tour about half the islands bays inlets and beaches on the island. There are reportedly 365 beaches on the island, and on the windward side many are blessed with strong winds.Antigua is very rugged so many beaches are inaccessible by land, others are in the lee at the shore shielded by huge rocks or cliffs. I managed to get some good shortboard sailing in, had an inflatable yacht tender ferry me out to the wind line outside of English harbor, and sailed right off the boat after a distance race to some beach resort over by St. John. To answer your question, yes it can be windy, and yes its an interestng and beautiful destination, availibility of gear, shops etc. I know of no specifics, but shold be easy enogh to resesearch on the net. Good luck with all that and don't miss Sunday sunset drinks at Shirley Heights, you can see all the way to Montserrat from up there.

I used to live there..have strong biz and family ties still..am a windsurf specialist for the island in fact, learned there. Winds are ok averaging about 15...not stellar. More a fluke than consistent like the other islands. Gear is so so. Patrick Scales is the man but the business is not enough for him to upgrade gear often.
