|
|
One of my goals is to windsurf in each of the 50 US states; I'm sure others have already accomplished this or are further along than I am in the US. I windsurfed in 34 states & the District of Columbian and have 16 US states left to go (AA, NV, ID, UT, ND, OK, MO, LA, MS, TN, WV, NY, VT, NH, CT, and RI).
What is the number of US states where you windsurfed?
How many have windsurfed in 3 or more states in one day? And where? DE, NJ & PA all meet on the Delaware River near Claymonth DE. The Mississippi and Ohio rivers each have a few places where 3 states meet. And under the right conditions it might be possible to sail about 45 miles from Connecticut waters across Rhode Island to Massachusetts waters. My best so far is two states in one day, Virginia and Maryland by crossing the Potomac River from Bell Harbor VA, and Illinois & Iowa by crossing the Mississippi from Nauvoo IL. |

My mistake, the AA I still need is Alaska, which I should have shown as AK. My wife and I hope to drive there next summer, camping along the way in a Honda Odyssey (with one board & rig).
I am in need of information about where to go for a launch point in the Anchorage or Seward area in July. That is complicated by my status as a flat water sailor, not a wave sailor. |

I almost always change states every few minutes on the Columbia, and, similarly, have changed countries every several minutes on Amistad Reservoir. I've seen the precipitation change states (from liquid to solid and back again) every few minutes, the state of Oregon has disappeared when I went too far offshore in the fog, and my mental state has often changed when the wind quit or something broke while I was far from shore.
Re Alaska ... I'd wanted for years to go there, but its season -- June -- is prime sailing season at home. It'll have to wait 'til I'm injured or just too freaking old to WS.

My state list is short, but sweet:
California
Hawaii
Washington
Oregon
Texas
Florida
Nevada
Add British Columbia, Guadeloupe and Mexico and I can see that my travels are ALWAYS wind-centric. Am I selfish to drag my non-sailing family to these places over the past 25 years?
(I've kited the Big Four too... That would be CA, HI, WA, and OR BTW.) I don't get out much compared to you guys (above!) |

I count the States from which I launch rather than in whose waters I sail b/c the latter can give some false readings. But, whatever makes one happy.

DE
VA
NC
FL
OH
KY
IN
MI
IL

I've been windsurfing for 24 years now, yet my list is quite short (and not likely to grow).
California
Hawaii (Kauai and Maui)
Oregon (the Gorge and the coast)
Washington (the Gorge)
Mexico (Baja) |
