|
|
Will be in La Ventanna first 2 weeks in February. Transportation, accomodations and gear is taken care of. My question is: What is a reasonable amount of $$ to bring with and what denominations. Planning on bringing US bills only. All I see myself spending money on is liquor and food. Any and all advice welcome.
Thanks,
Pete |

Hi,
This message is coming to you from La Ventana. We've found that dinner in the good restaurants is not more than $20/ person and good dinners can be had for $10/person. I'm sure we're overspending, but after a day of sailing, sitting in a nice place and having a drink is worth it to us. Lunch seems to be cheaper -- not more than $5 per person. Groceries are super cheap, as well.
Everyone takes American money and then gives you change in Mexican, so it's pretty convenient. Note, though, there are no ATMs once you leave La Paz, so you'll want to make sure that you overestimate your cash needs.

" A Mexican drug cartel kingpin accused of dissolving victims in barrels of lye and waging a terror campaign that turned Tijuana into one of Mexico's most dangerous cities was captured early this morning in the port city of La Paz, said Mexican federal authorities." (LA Times 1/12/10)
La Paz, huh? Reminded me that La Paz is always on the agenda when we're down in La Ventana or Los Barrilles, for a night of dinner and coctails. Guess it's smart to be extra low key with humble glances at the locals when down there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The post above is about right for food, I rarely spent more than $30/day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Alcohol would be extra. While everyone accepts dollars you get change in pesos and you probably pay 10 to 20% more in the exchange as they usually take dollars at 10 pesos per dollar. I usually get pesos from an ATM at the Serianos mall in La Paz. The ATM exchange rate has always been very competivtive. |
