Techno--granted. I installed passive solar in a previous house, with a previous set of tax incentives, and it was very cost-effective. The current solar applications for electricity become cost effective only with a fairly substantial electricity use. They don't make sense for me. There is a larger issue, which is what can be done with the excess energy--right now you can't put it back into the system.
So for most people, it is conservation--insulation in houses, lower energy using electronic devices, more efficient cars--that is most cost-effective. Most of California's gains in efficiency are from those measures. However, the cost of solar collector devices have come down dramatically, and the efficiency of batteries continues to increase rapidly. At some point, given a return to the higher prices of crude of the Bush years, solar will make sense. So the relatively small subsidies of the last six years have made sense in pushing the technology more rapidly. Most people used to accept that this was a valid function of the government. Of course, most people used to accept science. |

It was an interesting statement, but it also needed some clarity, not knowing who he was really talking about at the time.
Was it the people railing against radical Muslims, or ISIS railing against Jews and Christians, or both?
The clarity came later, sort of.~

Also, I didn't know that the pope was a climatologist, who knew? |

Are you one of the Catholics that picks and chooses what to hear from the Pope? Or are you a climatologist? Did you have something to add? |

Why should issues of faith be exempted from free speech? If you exempt faith from free speech, where does the slippery slope end? |

Oh, but at least in some parts of Colorado, your neighbors pay for most of it. Surely there's no flaw in that system? |

There are plenty of right wing preper's who have huge solar panels in preparation of the end of the world. The solar panels run their Talapia ponds, A/C, Fridges, water purification, and lights. They are the ultimate conservationists. (Ironically)
I almost bought an off-the-grid house on Maui. Huelo has some of the most amazing off grid homes. I was younger then, and am very glad that I didn't make this mistake. It is not as practical....as long as we have cheap energy in abundance. |

Perhaps mrgybe's secret identity has been revealed?
Quote: | "Pope Francis — and I say this as a Catholic — is a complete disaster when it comes to his public policy pronouncements," wrote Steve Moore, chief economist of The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank. "On the economy, and even more so on the environment, the pope has allied himself with the far left and has embraced an ideology that would make people poorer and less free." |

One would think an AGW thread would have died now that satellite data can find no global warming in the past 15 years, 3 three months.
Oh, crap ... here comes the SOTU address. Click! GONE! Sorry, but I do not want to hear about his plans to force people who EARN more money than I do to give me more of their money simply because I EARN less than they do. What part of the word, EARN does this socialist idiot not understand? |

Hea, according to the SOTU show, AGW is a bigger threat to our safety than ISIS, we are going to burn up before we get shot or beheaded, so lighten up! |

And again, we are misled by the mainstream media. I thought 2014 was the warmest year on record. Not that that proves anything but it seemed to point in the right direction. |
