It is no surprise that Hillary supporters believe that ignorance and hypocrisy are of no consequence. What they fail to comprehend is that these blatant displays of ignorance and hypocrisy cause further weakening of support for action on global warming. Most people don't take well to lectures from Dicaprio, Gore et al, when those high priests of global warming so clearly do nothing to curb their own carbon footprint. As for who is "in charge of every drop of water in the US", and the operation of Foundations, a little further education seems to be needed.

OHMYGOD! The Washington Post has reported that a very thorough, expert, nitty gritty study shows that "AIR POLLUTION HAS A STAGGERING COST" (that's the headline above the WAPO article in my local McClatchey rag.
<snip all the hoopla about credentials and universities and PhDs and economic and engineering and the EPA and math models and paragraph after paragraph about the crushing cost we must all bear if we don't stop producing/consuming energy (the hallmark of a successful economy). (Do they also want us to stop converting oxygen to CO2 (aka breathing)?>

Brace yourself, as your kids and grandkids and their kids and grandkids ... etc. will have to foot this annual bill. It was $131 BILLION DOLLARS in 2011 ... [b]DOWN FROM $175B the previous year) !!![/b]. Why, at this rate it's gonna cost our grandkids ... um ... carry the two ... divide by 400M ... THIRTEEN CENTS APIECE IN 2030.

For this the AGWA individuals, nations, and Obamas of the world want to spend TENS OF TRILLIONS OF DOLLARS and even further cripple the U.S. and world economies.

I seriously doubt that isobars would have a problem if the 131 billion dollars was being spent on weapons for war. Some folks have such a mixed-up set of priorities. We spent trillions on the War in Iraq, and what do we have to show for it, except a huge debt load and a lot of dead and injured soldiers.

We should have a strong military. It is the number 1 job of our nation's leaders. We should be prepared for national disasters and have a rainy day fund.

Obama has missed a great opportunity to secure the future survival of the US by not bringing both parties together on issues related to potential crisis situations. Floods, earthquakes, bio terror, EMP, and other things.

This silly GW thing has gotten out of hand. Clean energy is good. Just don't let the EPA get to big for it's britches.

Parched Earth soaks up water, slowing sea level rise: study

Miami (AFP) - As glaciers melt due to climate change, the increasingly hot and parched Earth is absorbing some of that water inland, slowing sea level rise, NASA experts said Thursday.

Satellite measurements over the past decade show for the first time that the Earth's continents have soaked up and stored an extra 3.2 trillion tons of water in soils, lakes and underground aquifers, the experts said in a study in the journal Science.

This has temporarily slowed the rate of sea level rise by about 20 percent, it said.

"We always assumed that people's increased reliance on groundwater for irrigation and consumption was resulting in a net transfer of water from the land to the ocean," said lead author J.T. Reager of NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

"What we didn't realize until now is that over the past decade, changes in the global water cycle more than offset the losses that occurred from groundwater pumping, causing the land to act like a sponge -- at least temporarily."

The global water cycle involves the flow of moisture, from the evaporation over the oceans to the fall of precipitation, to runoff and rivers that lead back into the ocean.

Just how much effect on sea level rise this kind of land storage would have has remained unknown until now because there are no land-based instruments that can measure such changes planet-wide.

The latest data came from a pair of NASA satellites launched in 2002 -- known as the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE).

Researchers learned that the "water gains over land were spread globally, but taken together they equal the volume of Lake Huron, the world's seventh largest lake," said a NASA statement.

Researchers said the findings will help scientists better calculate sea level changes in the years ahead.

"These results will lead to a refinement of global sea level budgets, such as those presented in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) reports, which acknowledge the importance of climate-driven changes in hydrology, but have been unable to include any reliable estimate of their contribution to sea level changes," said senior author Jay Famiglietti, a professor at the University of California, Irvine.

"But we'll need a much longer data record to fully understand the underlying cause of the patterns and whether they will persist."

Of course they are saying that it's temporary (how could they know that?), but what they'd really like to say that it's a temporary setback. Their future depends on it continuing, otherwise stuff like this would be treated as good news, but it never is "good news". The same with the sun being the quietest it has been in decades, it should be good news, but nope, it's the sun not cooperating.

One of my gym buddies was telling me today that we must read many sources and choose whose support looks more convincing. We were discussing nutrition at the moment, and he insisted that I read anything written by his favorite scientific investigative journalist, as he really knows his stuff.

Like many of my local gym rats, he has a PhD in physics (the town is crawling with them. When they try to claim that as a convincing argument for anything, I simply ask them why they stopped their education so soon, as many people went much farther.) He has studied AGW for > 40 years, and insists that the planet is within 1 or 2 years of a climate tipping point followed by 2020 with a full-blown global climate armageddon. He was all about the fictional 97% consensus BS, and refused to even consider the proof that the actual figure is 7%, not 97%, according to those scientists as reported by scientific investigative journalists.

The funny part? His favorite scientific journalist that he trusts so much is the same journalist who shot down the 97% consensus BS. Put your coffee down, mac, so you don't spray it on the wall.

And there we have even more proof that these guys can't read. It was my pro-AGWA bud, not I, who said Ridley was gospel ... except, of course, when Ridley contradicts my bud. (The bud says I have to read three specific authors to come around to his side. He doesn't understand that that's a sure sign of a minority viewpoint.)
