Europe, Asia, The Middle East, and most of America are freezing. Mac, Put your Birkinstocks on and walk to the Berkeley marina for your morning chants and screams.
I had ice throughout my yard 2 days ago....at the beach in Malibu... |

The more they think they know, ..............

Ross ice shelf in Antarctica is freezing and not melting from below as expected - and scientists have no idea why
>Experts used a hot water drill to dig into the 0.5 mile thick floating ice shelf
>The sides of the borehole should have been smooth if melting was occuring
>Instead they found jagged ice crystals that indicate that it has been freezing

The under-side of one of the largest floating ice shelves in the southern oceans is not melting as expected, according to experts.
Scientists drilling along the western coast of Antarctica found that the Ross Ice Shelf is actually freezing - but they have no idea why.
The finding might explain why the ice shelf is considered more stable than many of the region's other floating shelves.
If sea water freezes to the bottom of the ice periodically, this would help shore up the shelf and protect it from thinning.
Researchers from New Zealand used a hot water drill to dig deep into the floating ice shelf, roughly the size of Spain and around half a mile thick (1km).
Experts then lowered a camera into the hole they had melted, using a thermometer and other instruments to study the ice shelf's history.
Rather than finding the evidence they expected to confirm the recent melting, they came across jagged icy crystals
If the shelf was melting, the sides of the borehole would have instead been smooth.
'It blew our minds,' said Christina Hulbe, a glaciologist from the University of Otago in Dunedin, New Zealand, who co-led the expedition, speaking to New Scientist.
The team, which included hot water drillers, glaciologists, biologists, seismologists and oceanographers, set up camp around 200 miles (350 km) from the ice shelf's front

Those who pay no attention are easily confused by the phenomenon called "weather." |

Data points. Completely unexpected data. |

Quote: | The difference between weather and climate

What the science says...
Select a level... Basic Intermediate
Weather and climate are different; climate predictions do not need weather detail.
Climate Myth...
Scientists can't even predict weather
...Since modern computer models cannot with any certainty predict the weather two weeks from now, how can we rely upon computer models to predict what the Earth's climate might be like a hundred years from now? They can't! Yet people like Al "Carbon-Credit" Gore want you to believe that these models can predict the future. I bet I can do at least as well with a crystal ball (source: Kowabunga)
This claim is based more on an appeal to emotion than fact. The inference is that climate predictions, decades into the future, cannot be possibly right when the weather forecast for the next day has some uncertainty.
In spite of the claim in this myth, short term weather forecasts are highly accurate and have improved dramatically over the last three decades. However, slight errors in initial conditions make a forecast beyond two weeks nearly impossible.
Atmospheric science students are taught "weather is what you get and climate is the weather you expect". This is why this common skeptical argument doesn't hold water. Climate models are not predicting day to day weather systems. Instead, they are predicting climate averages.
A record high is an example of weather. Increasing numbers of record highs is a symptom of a changing climate. From Meehl et. al
Figure 1: Record highs are an example of extreme weather, but an increase in record highs versus record lows is a symptom of a changing climate. From Meehl et al.*
A change in temperature of 7º Celsius from one day to the next is barely worth noting when you are discussing weather. Seven degrees, however, make a dramatic difference when talking about climate. When the Earth's AVERAGE temperature was 7ºC cooler than the present, ice sheets a mile thick were on top of Manhattan!
A good analogy of the difference between weather and climate is to consider a swimming pool. Imagine that the pool is being slowly filled. If someone dives in there will be waves. The waves are weather, and the average water level is the climate. A diver jumping into the pool the next day will create more waves, but the water level (aka the climate) will be higher as more water flows into the pool.
In the atmosphere the water hose is increasing greenhouse gases. They will cause the climate to warm but we will still have changing weather (waves). Climate scientists use models to forecast the average water level in the pool, not the waves. A good basic explanation of climate models is available in Climate Change- A Multidisciplinary Approach by William Burroughs.

Many new Data points Mac. You're kind, don't even know what the climate will be doing in 2 weeks, let alone 200 years |

Bud break on my wisteria and pear were a month earlier this year. Data. But that could be chaos in the weather, not warming. We'll see how the average date of bud-break changes over the remainder of my life.
During that period of time, Malibu Barbie will post hog wash about climate change, without either citation or understanding, about once a month. |

We all know that when there is a poll asking people what they think the most important issues facing us are, Global Warming always comes at or near the bottom of the list.
When you get things like this, there is little doubt as to why.

Sigh! I'm sitting here at eight in the morning, gazing out of the living room window on March 8, officially past the start of Spring, at yet another heavily falling layer of snow, that stuff we were assured by the 'experts' would be obselete by now.
Obviously, it will be dismissed as simply weather, and we idiots are unable to appreciate such an obvious fact, because somebody in California, the centre of the global climate system, has noted that his plants are budding, and that must be proof positive of the worldwide earlier onset of spring, and global warming effect. (In the time it's taken to write this, our snow layer is thick enough to disrupt road traffic, yet again!)
Since our start of March (officially the start of Spring) is now claimed to be the coldest ever since our records began, I would hazzard a guess the ascribing it just to random weather is not quite as simple as the 'experts' might suggest. I believe that some change is taking place, but not necessarily in the way that is always stated. Perhaps the predictions of imminent cooling (next 20 to 30 years time) may be more accurate than is being accepted.
I don't think it's over yet! |

you know what it took them a long time to figure out tobacco causes cancer too. It went back and forth till better and better data was normalized. Same with dumpung chemical waste into the water, seems we are backtracking on that one with trump, same with damage to the air. since you were never hired for your advanced scientific expertise we take your anecdotal tobacco il-logic stupidity for face lack of value. You should go live on one of those safe GE chemical dumps. Same with Malibu barfie , maddies, low IQ 30, 900 club. In trump rape you are all deniers... _________________ when good people stay silent the right wing are the only ones heard. |
