Usually by this time of year , Ive had a dozen , bruising NW sessions at Crissy, Tomales wherever. Whats going on this year? El Nino? Global Warming? Global Cooling? Bad Luck?

I think el nino's wet stormy conditions. No clearing wind. No rebuilding High. Perhaps Mike Godsey could clue us in. Every sailor I know or meet is feeling your pain. Even the surf has been hacked up and huge.

Funny, just thinking the same thing.
Surf churned up, no days at Tuba, with the exception of two at Davenport in the last month.
Starting to remind me more of New York, nice in the week, pisses with rain all weekend!

The graphic below depicts the locations of the North Pacific High and it's NW winds relative to the inbound storms for the next 9 days. This is pretty much the pattern we have seen this spring.

It’s brutal, just brutal. If it weren’t for weekday, I know I am lucky, trips to the coast I would only have three days thus far. The only folks I know sailing regularly bought really big kit this spring, I guess I could suture all my sails together into one. For the rest of us Crissy has been canceled, see you all in 2011. Or this year on the coast, in the Delta, on Maui, and/or in the Gorge.

Thanks Mike, good info.
Don't forget to mention tax day as well, that way I can be doubly depressed!

Yup, when we were talking mild El Nino earlier this year on the boards, it got me worried. The '97 El Nino resulted in some good winter days an NO SPRING! sailing at all. This year, I've gotten a few excellent days on the Nor Cal coast and I'll take them. At least we've gotten some days...

Berkeley still seems to eek out the sessions if you can get there in time.

Yeah but what you guys are not realizing is in El Nino years where the NPH takes its time coming near the coast we typically have an off the hook month of June when the storm pattern finally changes. Just pray for lots of South swell and summer time could be all time.
