Uniden Voyager model has done me good, from either WestMarine, or Amazon.com... Just get a waterproof carry bag ...even though the VHF radio is "waterproof" ... it's not perfectly so over time... mn |

I just bought a Standard Horizons Hx850s VHF floating handheld radio with GPS locator for $170 online at Hodges Marine near Tamba Bay, FL. Shipping - $8 |

That last one sounded like a good value.
I have an Icom IC-M72, no GPS, no flotation, very rugged, but cost more.
Word of caution re waterproof bags:
If any water whatsoever does get in the bag and it's stored closed up it can do more damage than no bag at all. The main problem area is the battery compartment. It's a good idea to open that up frequently and rinse it out. |

I second the comment about ICOM M-72. Great Radio. |

Keep in bag when sailing. Take out after each session. Should make radio last longer. Had good results with the Icom. Trying out the cheap Standard Horizon which has been well reviewed as well. |

Don't help Burkely...we'll just have to listen to how many more miles he sailed than us. _________________ /w\ |

Many people use these:

like supergood ziplock bags. Come in many sizes...have them at West Marine, REI, etc |

ICOM-M72. Believe it has another watt of power than the others (8Watts?), supposedly a longer battery life and its dimensions fit in a standard WestMarine radio dry bag ($20) better than many of the others. While it does not float, it is submersible.
