After seven weeks of alternative activities, I went back to windsurfing the other day and had a great day of blasting on flat water with an 8.4. However, I steered clear of deep water starts and gybes. Tacking doesn't seem to effect the shoulders adversely. After talking to a few kiters who were former windsurfers this spring on shore, I discovered that rotator cuff troubles are more common than I had realized when it comes to windsurfing. Whatever, I'm proud to have sailed in my 60th year and hope all you that are younger will will be sailing into yours.

Hey, big guy, glad to see you posting again. I was worried about you -- thought maybe a shark got you. Wink

BTW, ace, the word is "affect."

And I hope you'll still be sailing when you reach my age - though to my mind, being old is more a matter of regret than pride. If only we could have another go around, knowing what we know now! Wink

Another of his famous "I don't write about my life" posts.

Thanks for the session report. You're da Man!

Matter of regret? Matter of pride? No, it's a matter of humility. Fools don't grow old, they die. The fear of the lord is the beginning of all Wisdom.

It's quite surprising that you understand those words, big guy. Hell, I'm surprised that you can spell 'em.

"Fools don't grow old, they die."

Well, perhaps, and that's why I was concerned by your extended absence.

He's Back!!!

And it has been so quiet and normal around here lately. The focus of the forum has actually been windsurfing and not the personal life of Swifty. Imagine that.

And he reveals another side of his multi faceted personality, Religion and spirituality!!

Brucie never ceases to amaze us and always leaves us wondering. Is sailingjoe the only personality or alias who worships the lord or do all of the others also?? I'm sure we will find out.

Question. Does the lord condone sitting behind sand dunes and spying on underaged boys while surfing the web for child porn?

Should this type of behavior cause fear??

HMMM

In Brucie's case, it's alias self worship. Confused

......which is not to be confused with alias fin sanding. Shocked

Oh dear, oh dear! Growing old is not a matter of choice. Acting your age may be, but that's hardly desirable in a windsurfing achievement context. (And I haven't had a premature death yet.)

You never cease to astound with your single minded dogged refusal to be infected with the common sense virus, to which the rest of us mere mortals succumbed far too early in our lives.

Ah what might have been had we had your ability to resist. No need to learn from past mistakes and, for the religious, (not I ) guaranteed entry to the Kingdom of Heaven as simple trusting little children.

I do so wish I hadn't eaten of the Tree of Knowledge. Crying or Very sad

Sailing Joe,

Now that you are back on the water, if you aren't also in the weight room re-building your shoulder strength, you will hurt yourself again.

I have had rotator cuff problems twice, but have survived and am now better than ever with cautious, full body, regular weight training (usually 15-20 reps on the upper body).

I am 65 years old and sail over 65 times a year with up to 11.0 sails on my formula board and a 4.0 sail on my sinker in 30+ knots of wind. I weigh 78kg.

You have lots of good years ahead.
