Interesting op ed piece by Bartlett Cleland, senior fellow at anti-government NGO Pacific Research Institute. He notes that the blue states--California, Massachusetts, Colorado, New York and New Jersey are the most innovative per capita, citing a study by CompTIA titled "Cyberstates." The only red state on the list is Utah. But then he follows it up to show the mind of the conservative--he predicts that California's high taxes and regulations are about to cause it to fall off the cliff. Those who hate the educated, considering them underserving "elites" somehow fail to notice that the innovation takes place in research parks concentrated around--wait for it--great universities. So Silicon Valley grew up around Stanford, well supported by UC Berkeley, and the Cambridge area is a similar location for innovation. The leading light in the South is in North Carolina--supported by universities.
Contrast this with Kansas, where Brownback pioneered tax cuts as an example of Republican orthodoxy to "lift all boats." He must believe the Laffer curve, no matter the data, Kansas is the 45th state in job creation:
Quote: | Kansas is far off pace from meeting Gov. Sam Brownback’s ambitious campaign goal of adding 25,000 private-sector jobs a year during his second term.
Brownback said on his campaign website that he would add “100,000 new jobs for the hardworking people of Kansas” over four years. The talking point was a centerpiece of Brownback’s 2014 re-election campaign, but two years into to the governor’s second term, the state is nowhere near that mark.
Kansas lost 2,300 private-sector jobs between January 2016 and January 2017, according to preliminary numbers from the Kansas Department of Labor and U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, which were released Friday. Those numbers are seasonally adjusted.

You can also contrast the economic growth in Wisconsin, newly red state, with Minnesota: http://blogs.mprnews.org/newscut/2015/01/minnesota-economy-beats-wisconsin-7-charts-1-table/
Quote: | 10 years ago Minnesota and Wisconsin had nearly an equal number of health and education jobs. As of November, Minnesota had 74,000 more

Faced with skyrocketing inequality, opioid addiction and homelessness, Trump's budget would cut funding for all programs--to give tax breaks to the rich. The Kansas approach. http://www.cbpp.org/blog/trump-budget-would-worsen-homelessness |

How Deranged Are Trump Supporters? New Poll Shows That It's Worse Than You Ever Imagined Quote: |
Only 45% of Trump voters believe Donald Trump Jr. had a meeting with Russians about information that might be harmful to Hillary Clinton...even though Trump Jr. admitted it. 32% say the meeting didn't happen and 24% say they're not sure.
72% of Trump voters consider the Russia story overall to be 'fake news,' only 14% disagree.
Only 24% of Trump voters even want an investigation into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, 64% are opposed to an investigation.
Only 26% of Trump voters admit that Russia wanted Trump to win the election, 44% claim Russia wanted Hillary Clinton to win, and 31% say they're not sure one way or the other.
Even if there was an investigation, and it found that the Trump campaign did collude with Russia to aid his campaign, 77% of his supporters think he should still stay in office to just 16% who believe he should resign. |

This is how much the know-nothings have taken over the party. Only 36% of Republicans think colleges are good for the country. Yep, we can build those computers, roads, oil refineries, and everything else without them. Make America break down again. |
