I actually asked for a GoPro for Christmas and I'm pretty sure I'm getting it from my hubby. I have not ever taken any camera out on the water with me but I would love to catch some of the views so I could save the memories. There's something so cool about being out there above the water. I'd have to put some of the photos into my photo cards collection.

I think Sergey (videojibe.com) also has a mast-mount system that he sells. Couldn't find the link just now, but he's on this forum and you can contact him through his site.

Hey There, I think this is a clip that was taken using the VideoJibe mount:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_profilepage&v=h5_yde6ehjQ
I think it requires two cameras and some special software though. The videos are incredible for analyzing freestyle moves and your own technique but not the best for action shots.

@DaisDD- I hope you get the gopro for Christmas. My friend who works for them in Half Moon bay showed me one of the new ones and they are def a step up and easier to use. The hardest part about getting video of windsurfing is getting out with the camera on a good day. Every video I have made is of a mediocre day because when its going off I never consider taking the extra time to setup the camera even though a gopro takes less than 30sec to setup.

It is all about the Clew-View. Laughing

Been shipping them all over the world. Gopro is coming out with a wireless remote next month which will be killer for the Clew-View. You will be able to stop and start the camera while sailing and change modes from stills to video. http://gopro.com/hd-hero-accessories/wi-fi-bacpac-remote-combo/

some additional GoPro prospectives. Key is to remember where the sun will be shining. For Northeast best wind would be southern, worst would be northern.

Hey Jerry,
I am just wondering what benefit do you gain from using the Clew-View over mounting the camera on directly to the boom upside down and flipping the video via GoPro setting or video editing. The camera does get away from the sail a little but I was wondering if there were any other benefits. Glad more people are jumping on board sounds like a great product.

I can answer that one! Very Happy

First- Convenience. The Clew-View takes about 15 seconds to mount to your boom, and it doesn't interfere with outhaul line if you need to make an adjustment. The other (original) method of just using the "vented helmet strap" took a good couple of minutes to get on the boom securely, and interfered with the outhaul, so if you had to make an adjustment, you had to undo the strap (a couple of minutes of tinkering), adjust the outhaul, then redo the strap (add another minute or two). All of those seconds really add up when the wind is blowing.

Second- A better view. The Clew-View moves the camera about 10" further away from the end of the boom, so the sail isn't quite so In Your Face and it's easier to frame the board and sailor in the same shot.

Third- Protection. The Clew-View acts as a roll cage for your camera.

I've attached two pictures so that you can see the better perspective- the first is from the Vented Helmet Strap, the second is from the Clew-View. Check out the movies to get a much better feel for the different perspectives.
