I tested out several mounting locations using the gopro rollbar mount kit.

You can view all my videos here → http://www.youtube.com/user/frenchsalsa.

First I tried 960p attached on one side of the boom:

One problem was that it only worked on one side!

Also, I wasn't pleased with how it distorted the image and shrunk the waves.

So I moved it to the clew to get farther back.
It became sensitive to centering, the lense has to be centered with the sail.

Centering the sail helped a lot but because of the reduced angle at 1080p, it'd crop too much of the picture:

So on my older gopro I set it as 720p so I can use the 170deg viewing angle:

However, I thought there was too much boom in the picture so I flipped it upside down and now I'm happy:

It works well on the formula board but gets lots of splashing due to the sail being raked farther back:

Works great on jumps and duck jibes:

I've had issues with the rollbar mount rotating when hitting the bottom in the shore break. Other than that, it's been great. It takes some getting used to center the picture I usually point between the boom and the mast track.

Put them to good use.

Lets see some footage or pics of the results. I have seen this angle before and it is good. But a bit odd looking. Laughing

I'm using a GoPro for the first time this season and have had luck with the big plastic clamps sold at hardware stores for woodworking. it can clamp anywhere on the boom and be quickly moved while on the water. I also got an interesting view by mounting a section of metal about 18 inches long hose-clamped to the rear of the boom (duck jibes would be a problem with this if i could pull them off) i used one of the GoPro flat-backed adhesive mounts and drilled through it and threaded a short zip-tie through it for extra security. For any mount i put a short lanyard between the camera and the boom -just in case. And make sure when you have a lanyard that it won't blow around in front of the lens and ruin the footage.

The Kona boom has a large flat spot where the pulleys are located. I attached a GoPro adhesive mount to that spot. I also have a head strap mount I wear over my hat. I like the clew mount the best. I tied a small safety lanyard to the camera just in case it falls off.

One of my friends asked, "are you being pulled by a motorboat?"
