|
|
We are trying to go somewhere first week of April. Ideally non-stop flight. Must have an easy place to rent with good equipment.
DR we like, and would return to. Aruba is kind of boring and overbuilt. Bonaire hard to find a flight on our dates. OBX is always good, but we don't want to waste a day driving.
Does Barbados have good equipment rentals?
Any advice would be appreciated!

If you can fly direct to Norfolk it's an easy two hour drive to OBX. |

What is BB or XBO?
Well, from NY its a three hr flight to Cabarette. So theoretically we can be down there in time for an afternoon session! |

Caba is very attractive. Yes, it's a short flight, however, by the time you drive to airport, arrive two hours early, park car, fly, land, bus/taxi to Cabarete, check in etc., it's well past three hours of travel time and a lot more $$. If there is wind on the day I drive to OBX from the Hudson Valley, I get a session every time. But, OBX in April, you could get lots of cold, miserable weather with your wind.
Enjoy the Caribbean. |

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Padre Island, N or S. Early April is about as good as it gets, weather- and wind-wise ... IF it's not a rainy year (El Nino or La Nina, don't remember which, can lead to endless rain). Short flight, cheap lodging, great rental fleet right on the water, endless breezes plus occasional actual wind, warm water, not likely to be cold (more likely to be extremely hot/humid), clean wind (at least at NPI/Corpus Christi) ... the only problem I'm aware of for your objectives is that -- last I heard -- you can't take the Bird Island rental gear to other venues, of which CC has many, each with its own charms and favored wind patterns.

Hmm, about the time I will be there (all April). I was trying to keep it a secret. But last year rocked. Some said it was the best wind season they have seen in years. I'm hoping for a repeat. Sailed everything from 7.2 to blown out on my 3.7 All in about 2 1/2 weeks... Boardshorts every day but one... |
