As Gerritt pointed out you would have to be dead to not know the AWT is on tap. And here is some awesome news. We're gonna have waves. Certainly better than last year.

We have back to back to back Southern Hemi action. Nothing crazy but all that stuff at 14 seconds and above is gonna be really fun. Don't let the 3-4 foot size fool you. The swell angles between 190 and 200 deg are going to light Waddell up as that energy travels up the Monterey Bay canyon.

If you were at all on the fence about making the trip here let this push you over. If we get wind it is guaranteed to go off.

Cheers,

-J

Thanks for the Local Knowledge Jaipal!! We're all rolling south from Oregon right now, excited to catch the south swell that rarely makes it up to the North Coast Oregon spots. We weren't sure if the south was going to show at Waddell, so your 190-200 degree analysis is welcome news!! Hopefully we'll see some good stuff out of the NW hitting this weekend...

Tom, and others; south swell is the BEST swell angle at waddell. Period! 3-4ft @ 16 sec can get up to overhead-logo depending tide and angle (high tide, and not too south; e.g. 200degr would be perfect)

Attached a plot of the american GFS wind model, which forecasts up to 180hrs in advance and has a 50km grid resolution, for Thursday May 4 @ 4pm. Looks good. BUT -as we all know- a LOT can change in a week. This is pretty much as far out as the model goes for now. So stay tuned.

Looks great... leaving Hawaii Sunday night, really excited to sail Cali... (PS will have lots of HOT SAILS MAUI and BLACK PROJECT FINS demo equipment. Looking at the forecast for early in the week I had better add some small sails!

Hi Chris, J, & all -

Below's 30 second happy snap. Didn't wait 5 minutes to get a beefy one, there were much larger overhead sets. Pretty fun day, around 2pm bit puffy with 10-15 mph spread - otherwise solid noon till 6pm.

SWEET.

First bits of south starting to show down here in PSC. I'll leave Monday/Tuesday to head up North, see you fools on Wednesday...

Joe Dihl, if you're reading this, I'm going to need a new panel on the bottom of my sail, and a place to camp, ha!

JS

Boy would I like to see this tour live streamed. I know it's another layer of complexity for the organizers, but I watched every second of the Klitmoller last year. I may be an oddball, but I'd much rather see the contest (live or recorded) as a whole than just the edited version. And last year we only saw a few highlights.

Cheers, and good luck to all the competitors organizers, sponsorsand support folks

The NWS has, unfortunately, dropped the South Swell from Friday's forecast.
Where did it go? Probably beaten down by the incessant strong NW wind and large short period wind swell. Evil or Very Mad

The NWS is not the best place to look. They rarely speak of the secondary and tertiary swells.

The South is alive and kicking. Waddell was fantastic today.

Look for Saturday and Sunday to shine. 18 seconds is golden.

Cheers,

-J
