I have only Formula boards.
Recent comments supporting singles over multi fins. Place yours here.
Singles are easier to tune, no techy formulas to dial in.
They are faster, they are not a fad.
I can install or remove one in a jiffy, compare to 4 fins that each have 2 screws, that I Would constantly worry I would strip the threads.
The major board companies all have it wrong, I have massive experience and my Dad was a TV repairman.
I don’t want to experiment with fins, toe in and asymmetrical fins confuse me.
The little fins catch Weeds. They speak in terms of area of the fin, I don’t understand cm2, or how it relates to fins sizes.
I have a lot of deep Tuttle fins and a vast collection of trim box. _________________ K4 fins

Windsurfing can be gear intensive. Not as bad now as it was years ago. I'm with you on single fin boards. One screw for a fin change if needed. If one fin works why add 2 or 3 more. If you want to upgrade your stock fin you just buy one. Stock fins are really good these days. Mostly no need for an up grade... |

I must admit that I found multi-fin relatively useless for my Bay Area sailing. I am back on single fin (K4 Fang) on my RRD 90 that is used with 4.8-6.5 sails, and on my Starboard Kode 81 (5.0 and below) I am using Maui Ultra Fin X-wave 22 and 24 with tiny-tiny-tiny 6 cm K4 Shark Fronts ... they might disappear soon if I am not careful.
But to keep up with the jest: I cannot understand why they are putting those extra rectangular holes at the bottom of the boards. Is it to slow you down?

Not in jest: I wouldn’t sail anything but a single fin in the Bay or the Gorge. |

RRD Firewave 92, 10 sides and 22 tail fin is my preferred ride for Berkeley the past 3 weeks with 5-5.3 sails. |

I used to be really into this whole multi fin thing and bought a bazillion different multi fin boards and lots of fins to experiment with. But then through trial and error I realized single fin was the only true fin for a windsurfer.
Just kidding. |

Not kidding: I think this focus on single fin vs multi fin is over rated. Both work, they just do it differently. So I can ride a multi fin while John rides a single fin in the same conditions. Provided we choose the correct size volume for our respective weights and an appropriate rocker for the conditions and the right sail size, then the number of fins is the tuning to personal preference.
A good fin can’t turn a board that doesn’t suit the conditions into a board that does suit the conditions. I’m not saying that fins don’t matter, just that a heavily rockered hookipa banana is never going to suit Florida no matter what fins you put in it. |

Both work: like all season tires work in snow compared to snow tires. One works one works better. Will a fin change alter the character of the board, no ,other factors exits, rocker bottom shape etc, that define the character.
So within reason a fin change can make it better. _________________ K4 fins
