Quote:

This hot mic recording just made MSNBC’s Scarborough-Trump headache worse

Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski lately have been combating a perception that they're too cozy with Republican presidential front-runner Donald Trump.

After winning the New Hampshire primary a couple weeks ago, Trump thanked the "Morning Joe" co-hosts for being "supporters" — or "at least, believers" — forcing Scarborough and Brzezinski to explain that Trump merely meant they took him seriously before the rest of the press.

Following a CNN report that Scarborough's "friendship" with Trump is an "increasing source of discomfort at NBC" and an Erik Wemple Blog post that ripped the hosts' "puff session" with Trump at an MSNBC town hall event in South Carolina last week, Scarborough and Brzezinski angrily protested the criticism on their show last Friday.

But their case just got tougher, with the leaking of what appears to be a recording of off-air conversations that occurred during commercial breaks at the same town hall that Wemple thought was so soft. Comedian Harry Shearer, host of a weekly public radio show and podcast, posted audio of the conversation Sunday as part of his newest episode. He didn't say how he obtained the tape.

Quote:

At one point, Trump describes Scarborough and Brzezinski's portrayal of him in one particular case as "almost like a legendary figure." But Trump also has a pattern of seeing what he wants to see in the analysis of people who view him as a real contender.

At another point, Trump says, "Just make us all look good," and Scarborough responds, "Exactly." Later, Trump says, "Nothing too hard, Mika," referring to upcoming questions, and Brzezinski replies, "Okay."

America’s 50 Biggest Corporations Are Hiding Over $1 Trillion Overseas

Quote:
Corporate America’s accountants are having a tough week.

A government report revealed on Wednesday that a significant percentage of large, profitable U.S. corporations pay no federal taxes at all. A study released Thursday gives fresh insight into some of the practices that make those light tax burdens possible.

The 50 largest U.S. corporations currently stash about $1.4 trillion in offshore tax havens, according to the analysis by anti-poverty group OxFam America.

Between 2008 and 2014, these titans of big business — a group that includes Apple, Coca-Cola and Disney — together received approximately $27 in federal loans or similar aid for every $1 they paid in federal taxes, OxFam America calculated.

here is what the politically right wing do... again adelson recently bought for all intentional purposes the only newspaper in Nevada. The RJ,

There was one reporter for years went after the two big names in Vegas. Well they went after him and bankrupted him even though he won both court cases. Well now adleson buys the only paper in town and makes his life miserable.

Again showing specifically the owner of media matters and the owners in the USA are right wing political hacks. do we have freedom when reporters can not dig into the rich and powerful or criticize them. again Adelson is trying to get taxpayers to fund a super stadium in Vegas so he can make more money. And the reporter can not even write about it in the only paper in Vegas.

Las Vegas Columnist Quits After Ban On Writing About Adelson

Quote:
A prominent columnist for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, the largest news organization in Nevada, resigned after being told he could no longer write about two of the state's biggest players, including his newspaper's new owner, casino magnate Sheldon Adelson.

"If I can't do my job, if I can't hold the heavyweights in the community to account, then I'm just treading water," the columnist, John L. Smith, told NPR in an interview. "It wasn't an easy decision to make, but there was no other decision to make — at least in my mind."

The family of billionaire casino mogul Sheldon Adelson bought the Las Vegas Review-Journal late last year.
MEDIA
The Vegas Columnist And The Newspaper Owner Who Once Sued Him For Libel
Smith had written columns for the Review-Journal for nearly three decades, with a frequent focus on Adelson, one of the most powerful figures in Nevada gambling and national Republican politics. The billionaire sued Smith for libel over a passage in a 2005 book about power players of Las Vegas.

Smith prevailed in court, but paying the fees helped bankrupt him. (NPR told that remarkable story, including a rabbi's offer of a secret $200,000 payoff from Adelson for Smith to admit libel, earlier this year.) Years later, the case has helped trigger the end of Smith's career at the Review-Journal, as his new bosses cited it as a conflict of interest.

"I was sorry to see him resign and I wish him the very best," the paper's editor-in-chief, J. Keith Moyer, wrote in an email to NPR. "I decided that the strongest measure was best for the Review-Journal. John had thousands of other people, things and news events from which to choose to write about."

Late last year, Adelson and his family bought the Review-Journal in a transaction that was initially intended to keep the new owners' identity secret from the public and the newsroom itself. The paper's reporters covered the mystery and subsequently identified the Adelsons despite the efforts of the paper's publisher to delay and soften the coverage. The paper's editor was among those who subsequently left. Promises of scrupulous disclosure of the Adelsons' interests were scaled back.

If I can't do my job, if I can't hold the heavyweights in the community to account, then I'm just treading water. ... There was no other decision to make — at least in my mind.
Columnist John L. Smith
Smith says new management implemented a new policy earlier this year: He could not cover anything to do with Adelson. The then-acting editor, Glenn Cook, regretfully conveyed the decision from publisher Craig Moon. Smith says he took issue: "I said, 'He's the one who sued me, he lost, and I'm conflicted?' "

Smith says Cook told him: "You can't do it or you'll be fired."

Soon after, the Adelson family announced its intent to build a football stadium to try to lure an NFL team to Las Vegas. That deal would rely on public tax dollars in a public-private partnership that Smith calls "a boondoggle ... that always seems to work for the private partners but not the public."

Smith says although the stadium was a subject ripe for coverage, he didn't challenge his new restrictions and left it alone. At a journalism conference last weekend, however, Moyer, the new editor, publicly acknowledged that Smith was barred from writing about the Adelsons and their interests. Attendees tweeted out those remarks. One person present asked Moyer whether Smith could write about Steve Wynn, another billionaire casino magnate who had also sued the columnist in the 1990s. Smith was dismissed as a party from that lawsuit, which was unsuccessful.

On Monday, Moyer told Smith he couldn't write about Wynn, either.

A majority of Americans' primary news source is Facebook. Not only is that as asinine as getting ones' news HERE, but Facebook employees ADMIT that Facebook systemically filters conservative news to bias the reportage in favor of the left.

Dean, of course, will declare them wrong.

One wonders whether isobars has ever had a Facebook account. I'm guessing he might have, but of course, he's out of there now.

Some like to think that all liberals are the same, but thoughtful folks know that they're not. I have never had a Facebook account, ever.

troll post

wow can you prove that a majority of americans get their news from facebook, and can you show me the articles they write that have a bias.

Next here are what employees of facebook have been up to lately. Shows the boss finally got them a rude awakening. If he was a right winger and opposing liberals did similar. Can you imagine what Trump would have done to employees. Oh he had a TV show about that. Fired. But this owner just made a non-direct announcement, no firing.

now, does that statement of what the employees had been doing show of a liberal leaning in a right wingers mind?

too funny... the right wing are wanting a senate investigation of Facebook...

when are they going to go after fox lie "fair and balanced"

http://gizmodo.com/senate-gop-launches-inquiry-into-facebook-s-news-curati-1775767018

Quote:
The US Senate Commerce Committee—which has jurisdiction over media issues, consumer protection issues, and internet communication—has sent a letter to Mark Zuckerberg requesting answers to questions it has on its trending topics section. The letter comes after Gizmodo on Monday reported on allegations by one former news curator, who worked for Facebook as a contractor, that the curation team routinely suppressed or blacklisted topics of interest to conservatives. That report also included allegations from several former curators that they used a “injection tool” to add or bump stories onto the trending module.

The letter asks that Facebook “arrange for your staff including employees responsible for trending topics to brief committee staff on this issue.” The letter was signed by Chairman for the Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation, Senator John Thune (R) from South Dakota.

If the media was liberal at least once a month I would remind the right wingers how they were the whiney kids and have not stopped. and how about this one..

https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/the-human-beast/201104/conservatives-big-fear-brain-study-finds

Conservatives Big on Fear, Brain Study Finds

Quote:
Peering inside the brain with MRI scans, researchers at University College London found that self-described conservative students had a larger amygdala than liberals. The amygdala is an almond-shaped structure deep in the brain that is active during states of fear and anxiety. Liberals had more gray matter at least in the anterior cingulate cortex, a region of the brain that helps people cope with complexity.

The results are not that surprising as they fit in with conclusions from other studies. Just a year ago, researchers from Harvard and UCLA San Diego reported finding a "liberal" gene. This gene had a tiny effect, however, and worked only for adolescents having many friends. The results also mesh with psychological studies on conflict monitoring.

What It Means
There is a big unknown underlying these findings. Supposing that the size of one's amygdala really does increase the likelihood of being a conservative. Is the size of the amygdala determined at birth, or does it perhaps increase with frightening childhood experiences, such as authoritarian parenting and corporal punishment?

Similarly, one might ask whether the gray matter difference is affected by exposure to educational challenge, social diversity, or childhood cognitive enrichment.

The born versus acquired perspective on political attitudes is important to psychologists. After all, if political proclivities are fixed at birth in terms of brain anatomy, there is little hope of change. Most of us would probably like to see a world in which political attitudes were less polarized, and more changeable, but that may be a pipe dream.
