Over 35, the stats on mass murder decline rapidly. Let's put it this way, can you name a mass killing done by a guy over 35? Over 40? Hard to do. Average age is 33.5 according to this article, but recent stats show younger killers.

Cars kill 33,000 per year. More than guns. Many of those drivers psychotic also.

Less than 10% of murders are performed by the mentally ill. You stated "the vast majority of ALL killings were done by men under 35 with documented mental illness". This is absolutely untrue and is highly discriminatory.

If we want to get sick individuals into treatment, continuing to attach stigmas to them is not the way to do it! Neither is cutting services to treatment facilities for mentally ill as proposed in the cuts to the ACA by the US House.

The "vast majority" of ALL killings is NOT performed by the mentally ill. We need to come to grips with this. The mentally ill are a convenient scapegoat for our murder rate. Lets figure out how to deal with the other 90% of killers too.

Remember the NRA chant, the only thing that stops a bad man with a gun is a good man with a gun? Sure worked well in the Navy yard, eh? They have kind of shut up with that line. It is the culture, and the ready availability of guns, that results in so many murders. It takes both.

Go back to Newtown, Colorado, Navy yard, and many others. They were hearing voices, on psychotropic drugs, or had parents asking for mental health care.

McVeigh seemed in tune with sanity, and that is in question. Granted, a guy who finds his wife in bed with his best friend is only temporarily insane. And rage certainly has its place in the stats.

But they are trying to outlaw assault rifles. This accounts for only 2% of all deaths. IMO, it might be better to have everyone trade in their handguns for assault weapons....Seriously.

Recent mass killings have had a high incidence of mentally ill perps using semi auto weapons. So, I will buy your argument that we need to keep guns from violent psychotics. Especially, semi autos.

But, mass killings are only a small fraction of the total murder rate and you will have to find someone else to blame for those. Unless you can claim that testosterone causes psychosis, we are gonna have to figure out what else is wrong.

Oh yeah, the NRA fights real research into this.

Did Zimmerman murder Martin with an AR-15?

Exactly. Turn in hand guns and trade them for ar-15's. Zimmerman and Martin would have never happened. (unless you're built like me, and ar-15 won't fit in your pants.) Wink

Or, trade 'em all for nukes.

I bet one of those would fit in your pants..... and glow in the dark.... Wink

Don't let your fantasies run wild Pueno. Mutual Assured Destruction has worked so far.

Actually, my fantasy is that all guns everywhere are gone.

Except mine, of course.
