Anyone try a 2011 to 2013 Thommen Fast X 127? At 200lbs I need a board that planes fast and glides through the lulls. Is this the board or is the Tabou Rocket 125 still the best board for light wind 7.0 to 8.3 sails?

i assume planes fast means planes early ?
a fast board is already planing in my book Smile

i understand the Thommens all plane early and go fast - no experience there
and yes people like the Rocket for planing and speed

those sails are probably used in 15 to 20 knot winds
there are many boards that "plane fast" in that wind range

to go through lulls, i find i need an early planer (usually wider and more liters) or long board AND the appropriate sails ie cambered -> free race or race

hope you find what you are looking for ...

I work with Thommen and he no longer makes production boards.
The 127 is a contest winner and can outrun the Tabou.

I have only sailed the carbonart and Tabou.and our Thommens of course.
Maybe it would help to know that width at the widest point and sharpness of rails carries you through lulls.
Sharp rails also beat you up in chop.
Wide boards feel "big" no matter the length or displacement.
Low weight like Thommen and CarbonArt helps in lulls but not as much.

The Tabou rockets are very comfortable and easy to ride fast when powered up. They can glide through a lull ok, but they are not particularly early planers. A rocket 125 would be a nice freeride board for mid teens to 20 knots, but for "pump to plane" conditions with an 8.3 you'd want something wider without the big double concaves.

Boards with dead flat bottoms plane up quicker and go faster but also suck really badly in any water not glass smooth.
