"The only concerns would be clear evidence of damage or mismatched and ill-fitting top and bottom sections. Also, make sure you get the proper plastic end cap for your particular sails.
Any latent construction or damage issues will show themselves in the first few hours. After that, the mast should be golden and subject to failure only from damage and normal wear and tear during your ownership."
Agreed.
Of course, there's no way to know how it's been stored in their warehouse... or possibly abused by being dropped or hit. And the exposure to poor storage and warehouse abuse goes up, every year it sits there and doesn't sell.
Still, I've purchased used masts locally, and, in the gorge... and have been satisfied with their performance for years.
And in either those "cases"... or this case of buying one mail order that might be kinda old... I will look it over VERY carefully before rigging... and I will be careful for the first 2 sessions. Staying close to friendly beaches and in water without current if possible
