Anyone ride this board? Looking for a high wind board that isn't a total wave board. Just a flat water and bump guy. 160lbs 4.2 to 4.7 conditions.
Control and smooth ride are the main concern. Advanced skills so getting going is not a issue. What do you Kode guys think

I have the 2011 model. It's a great bump and jump board, fast and forgiving. Gets on a plane quickly and it's a comfortable ride. I bought it after trying both the JP Freestyle Wave and the Kode on a Maui trip. I liked the Kode much more. My criteria were very similar to yours.

At 155, I have the Kode 74. Works as Novaan above says for me. I use it for powered 3.4 to 4.7.

What was better about the Kode over the JP. Its a shame that we need to go to Maui or the Gorge to demo a board these days....

NOVAAN, if you live in the SF Bay area, it's my understanding that Boardsports School offers Starboard demos at Coyote Point. They carry other brands too. Given the type of sailing that you're interested in, Coyote Point would be a perfect spot on many Spring and Summer days to test stuff out.

Novaan,

The Kode would go on a plane faster and would be more forgiving in jibes. I remember that both were same volume, yet the Kode felt a lot more fun to ride and faster. Note that I was sailing Kanaha, and I am not a wave sailor. I can jump but I don't do bottom turns, etc.

Hey Leo,
Thanks for your input. Sounds like the Kode will fit my needs. Just want to have fun on the rare windy days...

I have a JPFSW84, rode lots of Kodes that size.
Kode is narrower, faster, planes up sooner, not as slashy, but does slalom turns better. It's a freeride/bump n jump board, while the JPFSW is more a slashy swell turning board. Both fun, for wave riding, FSW, for bump and jump, Kode.

The fanatic freewave looked really good in the boardseeker test. Anyone have experience with it?
