Crissy is open! The whole beach access is back.
The wind is weaker but by 3 pm I am out with 5.0/85. Nicely powered up, flooding with little chop, beautiful water at the north tower with a swell in otherwise almost completely smooth surface: the breath of the ocean reaches in!
After an hour plus I feel the wind changing and I decide to head back, I am just west of the marina at the tower and planing on the slow side ... then a little perfect storm hits. I am reaching a big sailboat and it seems clear that even if I am upwind I am not going to be able to pass it, we are both on starboard. I tell them to please let me pass, all they have to do is head off a few degrees, but the kind skipper tells me to pass downwind: thank you so much! I have the right of way but what can I do ... I have to go under ... and of course enter the wind shadow ... and promptly drop off the plane and stay in its shadow for at least 400 yards. When I finally emerge I have lost a mile and heading toward the yacht club which I finally reach after swimming the last 50 yards. Wind is gone close to the beach and I call the day.
Lesson? Don't get too cocky with your 5.0/85 ... grab that damn Patrik and 6.5!

Good 5.0 wind at 2 pm at Coyote Pt. today. A bit choppy on the inside so I went towards the channel for smoother water. More kiters than windsurfers out today. The wind dropped a bit at 3 but came back up later. Probably the same conditions tomorrow.

Third can no longer be called Herd Avenue as the sailing crowd seems thinner these days. Good wind again just past noontime. 4.2/80L Fanatic triwave setup was just right ..that board really likes wind and chop, the nastier the better. Wind petered out a bit at 3 pm when I took this photo.

Marina Bay Sat. 5.2 and 96, planing 90%.
Again on Sunday at 3, 5.8 and 100, planing about 80% of the time, but really powered up past the kite launch to the speed ditch.
Same guy out on a 4.7 North (yellow and white) and Starboard freestyle both days.

Great day at Coyote, with a very robust 5.0 way outside, north of the airport.
But a tiny bit of drama: I start around 3 pm, starting off nicely powered up. It is low tide and I hear the fin scratching a bit. I go another 150 yard and I start to spin out ... I continue to spin out ... jump in the water and check, indeed the fin tab is broken. I am just 200 yards from Boardsports so I put the the fin back, sail down wind, and buy a new 25 ... lucky day!
The MFC 25 was long overdue for retirment. it has a production date 12/09/2007, I used it almost 9 years (!) and I run into a gigantic log with it two years ago at Crissy. Now I have a new one, not G10, vectran more flexy, but it actually seems to work nicer!

Two windsurfers out today at different times. 6.3 and 7.0. Both overpowered at the buoy where the wind was 20 knots +. Lighter and up and down near shore. A bit of south swell to play on. Had to time the launches and landings.
Worked to and successfully missed a seal that rolled up on the surface on the outside. Gotta keep your eyes open. Various critters will pop up and sometimes are seemingly unaware.

Lahontan is good on a south wind and was yesterday. 5.0 for me, 4.7 for my bud, small boards, waist high swell. 4 months out on my ankle fracture, a little tender but okay to sail. Plenty of water here of course. Lahontan and Washoe more full than any time in recent history. Pyramid and Tahoe both came up around 6 feet. Lahontan and Washoe were pretty much dried up, now super full. We both are using Goya trifins, One boards. They just eat up chop like it's butter. Windsurf gear just gets better and better. Sorry, photo next time.

Today was exceptional at Third Ave. Let's face it, no matter where we sail, some days are good, some are bad, and most are just okay. Every once in awhile you get a session where the wind, water and your gear is in perfect harmony. Had one of those sessions at Third on a 4.2 sail/80L Fanatic Triwave in steady 22 mph wind with smooth, fair sized ebb swells just above the marker. The 4.2 provided me with just enough planing power yet felt light in my hands. This morning I had removed the trifin setup on the Fanatic and replaced it with a single North Shore Maui fin that was on a retired 85L Thommen. Like magic the board rides so much better.. I'm able to point higher and have better control of the ride. Can't wait to take it to TI or Crissy on a windy big swell day.

Hi Bert,
What made you think to try replacing he tri-fin with a single fin?
Seems like it made your day!
