Love those post-sesh chill zone shots across the water with a few sails parked on the lawn. Life at its best.

Not much wind on the Santa Cruz coast of late. So I have been SUP-Sailing Pleasure Point a lot. This is a location that can be great for SUP-Sailing as the waves are so nicely formed that they still work in light wind very well. With the swell almost flat there have been only a few surfers out. With the light winds I have been doing this in board shorts, sans wetsuit. I would like more wind and larger swell, but made do with what got. Pics below:

Wind direction was southwest, which is side-shore along that section of the coast. It is fairly steady in strength and direction. It does go up and down a bit, but fairly gradually. I sometimes had to pump a lot, sometimes a little, sometimes not at all. It sometimes slightly changes direction a few degrees, but not too much. It often does clock a little more north, towards the west as the afternoon wears on. It has not done that much this past week. When it does do that, the wind gets light to non-existent near shore as it is blocked by the cliffs.

SW=port tack going out? Goofy foot riding in? From the ride in in the photo, it looks like std starboard down the line, just like up the coast. Or regular foot riding, as surfers would say.

Eastcliff faces S, so SWwinds are similar direction to springtime Waddell.

There was a video called Force 10 from the 90's that showed
90's windsurfing action along the Coast in Santa Cruz that
shows people Windsufing pleasure point on howling days with 5 or
6 ft swell back in the Day when the Haut kid and the Schiebels
were still windsurfing. Also even at at Steamer Lane.
Its so old its on VHS.
Not to be confused with other stuff of the same name they also had
a show on the local station as I recall.

Hi Garrett, Lee and Charles,
Pleasure Point points south, so the east side of it slants such that it faces Southeast. Thus Southwest wind is side shore.
Best seen on the attached shot of my Garmin trace from yesterday.
See below:
Note: The venture out through the kelp was to look at a boat going by.

1st Session: Natural Bridges Quatro Quad 110 & Ezzy Panther 4.7
Good session. Wind died inside so a bit of a swim in when I came in.
2nd Session: Waddell Quatro Quad 110 & Ezzy Elite 6.1
Mediocre session. Missed the better wind that was there earlier.
Good exercise day followed by brews at the Humble Sea on Swift.

Foiled TI this Friday just past noon on a 4.2 and the giant wing (2066 sq. cm area) on the Slingshot. Took flight just past the jetty with the wind at about 16-18 mph. I was pretty much sheeting out and luffing the sail to slow the board and ride the ebb swells..kinda neat. Finished up at 2 to avoid the commute.
