Bert,

Once you had the mast base back on the board, did you sit on the board to then make the mast reattachment?

Yes windward1, I straddled the board to connect the two parts as it is difficult to do this while you are in the water..especially when it's windy and choppy. Fortunately there was enough bend in the Streamlined tendon to make the connection. Some tendons and rubber joints are really stiff and difficult to get the 90 degree bend necessary to join the two parts. 20 years back I had to flip a board (80L) upside down, straddle it from beneath and connected the rig to the base while in the water..not easy, but it was the only way I could get the two to join.

Gotta sit on the board to attach base.
Line the pin first, bend joint, and attach.
Mechanical joint makes it easy.

Way to go, Bert. Self reliant. No Coast Guard. No help. No 911. Just keep your head and get it together with patience, not panic.

This has happened to me too. I use the same exact base. It's happened on the bay when I forgot to tighten the base - now I have a new protocol so I never forget again. Another time in huge waves were my carbon superlite extension failed -- I let it get too old and thin. There I was in 15' waves holding onto just the sail -- not fun. I was duck diving the rig and the board got detached when the wave hit. No way to go after the board as I was under water and by the time I came up, the board was gone. I no longer use carbon for extensions.

The key in board separation is to know what is happening and immediately go after your board! On the bay, this is possible assuming you have a decent sprint to catch it. In waves, not so much, assuming you are inside the break. Outside the break, you ought to be able to catch it.

Natural Bridges was fun today. Three windsurfers out.

Nice to just enjoy some wind and not be trying to scratch my way up or down the coast.

Berk Thursday, the spike went to 23 or so, and after 3 runs on foil went to Skate for an hour of windsurfing and carving jibes instead of tenuous balancing on the foil.

Coyote delivers, with steady strong 4.5-5.0 wind from the yellow buoy all the way to the outside markers. Some nice swell but strangely enough quite confused seas at around the markers. Fun to chase the few sailboats out. Very Happy

With the NW on the coast, Berkeley has become light and barely sailable with 7 meter sails, but OK with 5 and foil.
Getting lotsa foiling, not progressing much except light steady breeze and flat water helps lots.
Not getting the foiling jibe, usually touching down at initiation, then foiling from downwind and out.
Clumsy feet and frozen brain don't help, nor do advanced age and lack of balance.
