Monterey Bay had a tropical look to it on Saturday. Could have been Hawaii or St. Croix. The water to the horizon was so green-blue that it looked like the bay was only six feet deep with a white sand bottom. Of course it is not. I have never seen it this way.
This pic does not do the color justice, but thought I would throw it in to attempt to describe what I saw:

Steve,
I've found Stevenson to be a bit mellower in years past. Plus the sailor demographics is more like ours.....
Say hello to Rick May if you happen to sail there.
Cheers and Better Luck, David

Actually, it is amazing how many grayhairs there are up here now. Our clan is aging. At 64 years old I sure can't charge the big stuff like I used to. But it's nice to see how many youngsters there are sailing. Not as many kiters as I expected to see.

Stormy day at Crissy. I start up testing the demo Hot Sail Maui SpeedFreek 6.5 and hang in there for about 1h until the wind gets really too much. Back out with 5.0 have another very nice 45' before the wind dies back to 6.5 conditions, before coming back 15' later to 5.0 ... you see the pattern ... stormy weather. Flood conditions but no problem staying upwind, for some reason few windsurfers and a majority of kites, kind of the opposite of the norm.
The SpeedFreek http://www.hotsailsmaui.com/sail.php?uid=21 is interesting, too early to make any serious comment but first impression is that it is VERY smooth and forgiving.

Yup, you nailed it re Stevenson demographics - and ours. Most youngsters seem to gravitate to kiting, ala snowboarding vs. skiing from my observations.

Pretty much perfect 5.0 + FSW 85 at Crissy. Steady wind, big flood and very little chop, with big upswell of totally flat water around the north tower. Some big (immense actually) boats passing by make some nice waves (one even breaking!). Otherwise ... no swell but ... oh well for that we need TI.

Hood River riverfront park today.
Beautiful launch and rigging area. Very kid and family friendly. I imagine it can be a zoo on weekends. Very gusty and mixed up water...lots of work. I love it here, but miss my smooth East Bay. Back soon.

windoggie,
Have you sailed Swell City yet? I think that's the best launch in the corridor, and it's not as hectic and tight as the Hatchery. Sail just a bit upwind, and you're literally by yourself in great swell.
