Actually, about the 5th windiest this year. At 4, a 4.5 was fine, a bit windier later. Sailed 3 days much windier.

After yesterdays SW debacle at 3rd I sailed Coyote today at noon on a 4.2 Force and my rarely used 81L Fanatic triwave. West wind made for a holey 20 mph on the inside and 30 with gusts along the airport. The flood chop was brutal but the triwave tempered the ride. I'd be lying if I said it was enjoyable because it wasn't. I've been mostly foiling since June last year and I've lost my shortboard mojo. I need to foil less and go back to windsurfing.
The worst part of today was I had a hell of a time getting out of my new 5mm neck entry wetsuit. Getting in was okay but you need to be a damn contortionist to get it off..it's like being in a straight jacket.

I'd been selling wetsuits for 20 years, and the first neck entry suit looked like a bad horror show to me. Something like a Psycho Freak. I never got past my knees in one..circa 1985 at Wise Surfboards. After 25 years of daily surfing, the shoulders don't wiggle anymore.
Still using backzips, non flap.

Windy days in a row at Crissy. Tue I missed because I was getting back from a backpacking trip, Wed was overpowered 3.7 a bit too much for being comfortable, and today the perfect powered up 4.3 conditions with some very nice swell so tall you could drop in! Lovely! Finally the wind is in. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Tuesday: Mellow day. Windsurfed the Angulo Sail SUP 10'-2" with Ezzy 7.0. Could catch a nice swell just inside from the outer reaches of the kelp bed and ride it to near the shoreline. Fun. On the way home, stopped and watched two 5-person Outrigger Canoes catching that same swell and riding it at Its Beach.
Wednesday: Crazy windy! I was on my JP FSW 91L with an Ezzy 4.7. Fun! Trying for 30 mph on speed runs, but only achieved 29.1 mph. Got thrashed by a seven wave set when landing and even though my gear ended up being beaten against the rocks when one of the waves ripped it from my hands, nothing broke! Hooray! The other windsurfer at Natural Bridges had to be rescued by the Harbor Patrol when he broke his boom on a jump and found himself headed for Sunset Beach. Two other windsurfers were out at Its Beach.
Thursday: Crazy windy! Four windsurfers out during the day (that I know of). One on a 4.2 in the morning taking advantage of the early awakening of the wind. Three out later. One on 3.7 and the others on 4.7s. I was able to get a run of 29.9 mph. That 30 mph mark is still being elusive. No rescues today. But a post session beer for a couple of the folk at Humble Sea Brewery.

Windward1 we are sailors, speed is in knots not mph! 30 mph is about 26 knots or about half the current world speed record. In my experience is about the top speed with a wave/B&J board in open ocean. I touched 27 a few times with a Starboard Acid in flattish water. Get a slalom board and you cross into 30 knots plus before you hit the 35-36 knots barrier and need VERY flat water to go faster.

My Garmin does not do knots. It reads out in mph. So that is what I am going to report.

Get a sailing App: I use the Wind/Kite Surfing Datafield that agrees pretty much spot on with my old GT-11 https://apps.garmin.com/en-US/apps/b820a772-e335-406a-85b7-2ac6a0e5b61a it gives you a much better idea of your speed on the water, with average speed over 2 sec, 10 sec, 100,200 500 meters etc Max sped does not really means much ...

Wow! 5mm suit in the Bay. I haven't sailed Coyote in a while, but has the water gotten much colder there?
FWIW, I switched to a 4/3 neck entry suit also, and while you'll hear people say that it gets easier over time to get in/out of your suit, that has not been the case with me so far. Might have been true if I were 2 decades younger.

Been wearing a SS 2-1 every sunny day for Berkeley for six weeks now. Long legs, short booties.
