I have a rigging stick (along with the old man's knot as taught by the Imperato bothers,) with a rope attached, after using it for 15 years the rope has been set to the right length for my booms. I just set one end at the bottom of the extension and make sure the other end touches the boom. I can use anyones sail at demo's or rentals and quickly set the boom correctly. I also mark the sail or use the newer sailworks marks so I can see if the boom is slippin.

Just as I described above. The knotted bright orange cord determines the boom height and makes it easy to find my downhaul handle in the grass.

Thought I had posted.
I always carry my measuring stick, to the beach, to the mountains, to the valleys, and to the desert.
Tip of middle finger to inside of stretch other elbow is 51", about right for bump and jump gear.
To outside of elbow, 56", about right for full slalom kit.
