I can highly recommend Chris at Clew First. He teaches beginners at Alamitos Bay.

If you want to learn at Cabrillo than Jurg @ Windsurfdeal or ______(forgot his name...Bill?) at Captain Kirk's teaches at Cabrillo.

When you start sailing at Cabrillo be sure to introduce yourself to the others! We all are very friendly!
Happy sailing!

-Kevin

bamwindsurf - you mention in your post that you have gear. What board/rig do you have? Are you familiar with rigging? The primo beginner spot in LB/OC is Alamitos Bay (safe, relatively clean water). Christopher at Clew First no longer teaches there, he has moved away. Jeff from Long Beach windsurf center is still around and for a while he was doing a windy Wednesday thing (which is free).

I am in San Diego and occasionally teach at Mission Bay if that is of interest to you pm me.

Welcome to windsurfing, SoCal is a great place to learn!

After lots if research - I ordered a board w all rigging - arrives next week... so I'm excited about the journey. I've windsurfer a few times long ago. Kiteboarding didnt hook me. I'm 58 but a surfer, water skier, paddleboarder, etc.. - waterman - water addict. Alamitos is fine, but I may stay in low wind areas 10 knots, and just cruise spol on a 6.5 w 233l in Newport Harbor. Bought a high volume 133l Starboard Rio... I know the pros & cons please spare me. Bottom line I'll sell it/ take a loss when I outgrow it (30 days) or not. Weight range 210-225lbs. a foodie.. Body is trashed from sports, hope my back, knees, sciatic, shoulder will hold up. San Diego's too far for lessons but thanks. I e talked to Jeff years ago, hope he's cool I bought elsewhere??? Any other instructors in that area welcome. Thanks to you all

I hope you meant 233l and not 133l !

Didn't know Chris moved! Thought I saw him at Cabrillo last week during the nationals. So that narrows it down to LBWC, WindSurfDeal, and Captain Kirks OR our local sailor Piero at Cabrillo!

Summer afternoons at lake Perris are great for learning. Warm with light wind early. Picks up a bit later in the evening. There is a boat protected sail cove by the dam. Still a crew of nice guys that sail there almost everyday. Matt and Kevin Pritchard learned there so it can't be to bad. Weekdays are the best. A lot less people...

Is it your first time to try it or you have tried it before and just needs to improve your windsurfing skills?

Here are some of the basics you need to keep in mind:

First one is your kit, familiarizing yourself with the kit will give you an advantage, second one is the Basics of Starting
and lastly the Turning.
