Looks like Maui got some decent Kona winds yesterday from Flossie. Any windsurfing reports from South Maui?

The sun sets this time of year about 7pm and the south wind didn't
come up til about 5 or 5:30 according to the graph. Plus it was raining,
I doubt anyone went out.
It looks like the pre-storm northerly wind was good earlier in the day though. (If you could avoid a big swim at 2pm).
The tradewinds are usually so consistant this time of year, the locals
wouldn't sail rainy storm winds. Maybe a desparate tourist that is on a short vacation would go out. |

Here is our report from the Maui Sunset on south Maui for Flossie. The north wind ahead of the storm had some strength on the south shore (nothing on the north shore), but it was offshore and fluky. One tourist went out on a 4.2, and ended up being stuck in the huge lulls, drifting in downwind, and had to walk in and back across the shallow reef. The south wind built rapidly around 6:00 with gust to 50, but it was raining so hard by then that there would have been no way to see once you were up to planing speed, not to mention that there was lightening all around by that point. I sailed Maui Sunset in epic conditions during hurricane Iniki (4.0 and 20+ foot surf), so it can happen, but not this time. |

Keycocker- you weren't sailing the North Shore Monday, it was Tuesday that had those conditions. Nobody expected it to be windy after Flossie's exit but it raged from the East. You could be right about today, 8am and there are whitecaps. |

I missed you KC. We looked for you at Uppers, but didn't see you. Our power blew out all night in Kuau. That was our last night. Surf was large in Hana. Hamoa almost got windy enough to sail. See you next time Aloha! |
