I don't mind the humor but if that's Andre's current gear in the video maybe we should hold a bake sale to raise $ for a sail upgrade to this decade. A sail bake sale.

Andra your posted pic is inappropriate and has nothing to do with the subject at hand. Mods please remove. This is not a sounding board for your strange sense of humor and band standing..... Go away.

georges, if you are miserable today don't blame me for it, our posts should be informative and fun. Let's see what others say, if they agree with you, or maybe they like my sense of humor. Maybe you have a problem, not me.

fun, yes. sexist, no. Pull the image.

It's not exactly furthering our cause to keep the launches open, either.

However, I do thank you for not using the Sand font.

BCDC did issue a permit, and their staff is checking to see if there was any authorization for temporary closure. I would be surprised if that were so. I'll keep this link informed.

@ georges - Thank you for starting this much needed discussion

@ combinatorial, mac, & kirk - Thanks for jumping on it, taking action and getting some info!

@ coyoteandre - I agree. Complaining does no good. Complaint coupled with positive solutions works a lot better. However, I agree with georges, the pic is inappropriate given the topic.

The response I got from my email was:

"The western ramp will have access all day and
the one in the construction area next to the Beach Center will be open
daily at 1p.m. til ½ hour before posted closing time."

Happy sailing!

Hi,

The construction crew somehow had no idea that an entire business (Boardsports) and water recreation community (windsurfers, kitesurfers, stand up paddlers) access the water daily, both for their livelihood (ours) and sanity (all of ours).

Wednesday morning, as soon as access was blocked, we were able to speak with one of the people on the construction crew. We told him our access needs, gave him an overview of our operating hours, and asked if they could provide access at the eastern (close to Boardsports) sand bag ramp daily. The western ramp was never blocked. Cars were in the parking lot on Wednesday rigging up, and accessing the water just fine.

By Thursday morning, all was taken care of. We now have the crew opening the fence every day. It will be open for our operating hours during the construction.

About half of the parking lot is fenced off. So weekends should be the toughest in terms of access. Perhaps get their early - like in the 90s when the lot was full by 11am, and the place was packed wall to wall with windsurfers. The lower / eastern parking lot is open. That could provide some spill over access.

I provided a photo of the "before" scene on Wednesday morning. Sand bag ramp and entire beach fenced off. I provide an "after" video on vimeo here, showing access Thursday afternoon, after they opened the fence for us.

Thanks to the construction crew for accommodating our needs so quickly. Must have been an oversight from the planning team Sad

Sincerely,
Jane & Boardsports Team

p.s. and special thanks to our staff member Jesse (10 year coast guard veteran) who very astutely summoned the attention of one Boardsports snack bar customer. A guy in an orange construction jacket came up to buy an ice cream on Wednesday, and he was our ultimate connection for getting the fence opened so quickly and agreeing to open it every day!
