Any suggestions on how to repair a 6 inch tear in the mylar window or a sail? Is there a tape that may work?

Clean up well, good quality packing tape on each side, possibly extra layers at end of tear. Such 10 cent 10 minute repair may last years. dhmark.

Transparent packing tape with transverse glass (?) fibers seemed to be the most durable. Haven't used any for years but I assume it's still available.

I once slapped some run-of-the-mill clear packaging tape (it's mylar) on a harness hook goring hole to get me through the day. It was still solid when I sold the often-used sail years later.

Get it clean, round the tape's corners, apply carefully, and fugheddaboutit.

We have used packing tape for twenty plus years in the shop.
It usually comes off but takes time.
The thick sail tape chinook sells has never failed us.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for the suggestions. I have some post office packing tape that I'll use after I clean the area first...

Get the panel replaced at a good sail repair shop. I just had the largest panel replaced on my 5.4. It looks brand new, and sails great. If you're on Maui, take it to Tom Hammerton at Hot Sails Maui at the Kahana Kai shop near Kanaha Beach Park. Tom is no ka oi.
