Heard from the reporter at The Chronicle who wrote the piece. He said he got in touch with Ed today and will be posting an update to the story soon. Stay tuned.

Good on ya TI Crew! I would be curious as to how this plucky pup found herself in this predicament. A few years ago I rescued a pit
bull mix puppy out on the desolate lava flows out beyond Hana on the road that brings you back to the South shore of Maui. Seems that the bad boys on the island would dispose of pit pups who wouldn't get mean and gaurd their pot farms, crack stashes, and ice houses, ala Michael Vick. My friend Steve from Hawaiian Island Surf and Sports adopted her, named her Koa and she enjoys the sweet life in Makawao. I , personally, would not devote too much time to finding "Treasure's "previous owner and just give her a good, loving home, she's a lucky girl! Bull

Thank you so much to Ed and John, and whoever else stayed in that icy water for so long to rescue this dog! You guys truly have hearts of gold.

Different dog from the one on the lost poster. Looks like a keeper. Has no fear.

This reminds me of something I've seen happen, then heard we should watch out for wherever there's a current: dog takes a swim, hits the current, panics, turns upstream, exhausts himself trying to swim into the current to hold his position relative to land, all the time being right in the jibe zone. The race is on: does he get hit and drown; does he get exhausted, swept away, and drown; or does some alert observer do whatever it takes to rescue the dog?
This dog got extremely fortunate in not only being found at all, but in being found by people with the conscience, resolve, and means to rescue him.

Just visited with the dog and she is doing great. Appears she is a mastiff breed called a Cane Corso and will probably grow to 80-90lbs! Very sweet dog. Owners have still not materialized despite all the media coverage.
