thanks for the link, great stuff!
Cool that Annie Gardner (olympic windsurfing silver medalist) is one of the commentators. |

Watching the windsurfing foil guys for the past 20 years, we notice the problems going from flying the foil to any sharp change of directions, as the foils lost the lift and the hull became displacement again.
This was somewhat cured by using a standard windsurf hull, that worked in displacement mode, and foils / foil attached below for the lift.
Now, these 70'ers are using foils, trying to turn sharply, and the hulls, while designed for non planing conditions, are NOT designed to handle the drastic loss of speed when the entire hull hits the water, nor the impact from the quick dropping nose of the cat/tri's in rougher water than the boats were designed for.
It get's ugly, and more accidents will happen, even after the maximum wind range is now down to 23 knots. |

actually down to 18.75 kts, if i understood tv correctly. seems like the wrong venue in SF for that maximum. 40 kts boatspeed, wow! |

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_-jGYPrB2As This one looks pretty cool.
Mike Zajicek says that control, particularly on a starting line, is a very big deal, and he thinks only a few of the top guys will master it. Interesting discussion here: http://kitehydrofoil.com/
Give the gear heads a chance and I think we'll have them on lots of kite and windsurfing boards. |

Saw two kiters the other day, at upper kanaha on hydrofoil boards. Had to look twice, to believe what I was seeing. they seemed very much in control. |
