Hi im clayton,

I am going to be driving from Oakland, CA to Corpus Christi, TX on the 29th of October.
I have room for one other person and their gear in my van.
The trip will probably take about 3 days, depending on pace.
All that I ask is that whom ever joins me pitches in for gas.

This will be a one way ticket kind of a gig, unless you want to join me on the mega loop. If interested I would recommend tagging along, then booking a flight back to the bay, and shipping your gear via Amtrak. they don't charge much and they have lots of room for over sized luggage.

My big loop plan looks like this....
After about a month in Corpus Christi I will drive to Baja Mexico and stay there for a month or two. From there I will drive back to the bay, and will be getting back some time between December and January.
These dates are not set yet, but if interested in coming let me know.

Hi Heidi...
May I recommend SPID for it's free camping on the beach, 45 dollar hotel's every 2 days, much shorter drive to food and shops.
If you need some bigger gear, for the usually light winds, hit me up. I park at the Racer's lot mostly. I think you and Clayton only have sail sizing up to 5.8's.

South Padre Is is a long barrier island that is sand. It is legal to drive
on it for miles and miles and camp almost anywhere on the sand (at least it used to be legal 15 years ago). 4x4 vehicle is advisable. The wet sand is very hard but it gets soft away from shore where you would camp. We drove the beach with a rented Suzuki Tracker and had no problem even in the softer sand. There is also an organized campground.

Eva, bring all the beach toys, but....
Predominant winds at SPID are sideshore, so not a whole lot of beach except for those minus tides.
Corpus has one beach, NorthBeach, that get's onshore or offshores, so for use there, bring it if you have room.
Better to bring a big surfboard and surf those small, slow GulfCoast waves. Your smallest rockered windsurf board would work also, but remove the straps and use the smallest wave fin you own.
You can always windsurf those small, slow GulfCoast waves if the winds exceed 15 mph.

I went there one New Year's week (about 15 years ago). Winter is definatly off-season there so even the nice hotels were dirt cheep. (Spring break is high season).
Got skunked for wind the whole week. It was 50-55 degrees and cold fog (it was warmer in San Jose!).
There was alot of hard sand in front of the hotels but the hard sand beach narrowed considerably as you went north. (it may have been low tide, I wasn't paying attention to tides or surf, it was too cold)) You couldn't drive or camp on the beach in front of the hotels, you had to drive north of SPI town. Windsurf Inc was the big rental shop there and they could probably give you info too (if they're still there).
