Hi,

I used to windsurf in the past (a lot), but since I moved to San Francisco and I didn't buy gear and car right away I kinda forgot about this sport.

Now I want to get back to it, but it seems to be not that straightforward to do - especially that I don't own a car and I don't know any windsurfers in this area.

Are there any board+sails storage spaces available in San Francisco, just by the Crissyfield?

I don't have experience in windsurfing here, usually I see small sails, so what would be the best way to figure out what kind of gear do I need? (In place where I lived before I needed 8,5m sail - I'm sure that's not the case here.)

Thanks,
Inez

Some threads a few month old are talking about POSSIBLE storage facilities near Crissy, but it hasn't happenned yet.
Easier to go to Berkelely, join CalSailClub, 33 bucks a month, and use their gear. They have much better gear than you could buy for $3,000.

You could also start by renting from Boardsports School at Coyote Point, San Mateo and also in Alameda. http://boardsportsschool.com/

They were helpful to me each of the three times I've rented from them in the last 5 years (most recent was in June). I live in Iowa, rent from Boardsports when I fly in.

Might be time consuming to try to make it to Coyote Point without a car.
CSC is not handy either, needing a BART ride to NBerkeley, then a 10 minute bike ride to the S sailing basin of Berkeley Marina.

Boardsports is definitely too far if you live in the city and don't have a car. By why not rent a ZipCar or something? This seems like the perfect use case.

No rentals in SanFrancisco.
Besides, Crissy is the most advanced windsurfing you can find for anywhere that is popular worldwide.
Boat traffic, strong tides, 55 degree water when it's warm, winds from 15-40 mph, air temps in the mid 50's, you don't want inexperienced windsurfers going out there with some control.
