|
|
The wind observations are sometimes corrupted as shown in the picture below. The text at the top says the average wind speed is 20.5 mph but the graph shows the average to be about 16 mph.
Anyone else notice this?
Which data is correct?
20.5 mph will get me out but 16 mph I'll stay at home/work.

Sometimes the text updates slightly before the graph itself.
Which station is that, g?
(Paste in the iWindsurf URL here if you can.)

The station is Ninigret Pond in Rhode Island but I've seen it happen at other stations.

A related question; how often should a station update? I've seen as quick as 5 minutes to over an hour for the same station. The hour wait is really frustrating when trying to decide whether to go or not.

Yes, as we can see when looking at this latest graph (attached)... at about 2:30pm RI time, the wind did hit the 20.5 windspeed -- as plotted on the graph. So when comparing this later graph screen shot to your graph above (screen shot taken shortly after 2:32pm), it's clear that the graph was slower to update than the text. The text was right.
I'll check with the programmers what we can do to get the graph updating in sync with the text values up above. And, also the answer on the question about the differing update time intervals from the same station.

gschuel1 -- After checking with our programmer, here are your answers:
(1.) On this weather station, if there is a temporary discrepancy (like there was yesterday as we can see from our screen shots), the text up top is the latest info. The graph will sync up shortly. Technical explanation: Some of our older weather stations have two tables of wind speeds: one holds the "current", and the other holds the history. They are normally updated simultaneously but sometimes there's a slight delay. A refresh will normally re-sync them.
(2.) All of our new sensor technology allows for weather stations to report at least every 5 minutes. While we can't rule out an occasional missed report, all weather stations with new technology should generally report every 5 minutes. However, some of our older technology weather stations do not have that capability, and there may be longer intervals for various technical reasons. [NINIGRET POND is one of the older stations.] We are progressively upgrading weather stations so that eventually all stations will have the 5-min capability.

I appreciate your response. Looking forward to the new sensors!
