Very interesting and enlightening conversation here. Good points all. The biggest one truly is the effort that Sam Bittner is making on behalf of our sport is incredible.
She took a gamble by coming up to Plattsburgh, NY, and while the wind wind was absent, the stoke and eagerness from her team, and the participants (some who drove 6+ hours to be there even on no wind forecast) was huge. Very non traditional site for the AWT. They did a little learn to windsurf thing that with participation from the regional dealers/distributers could reignite things up this way.

SAMs events include kids, folks who never competed, women sailors even get respect. The PWA guys can see she is the best hope for windsurfings future and would like to direct the PWA to be more inclusive. |

i don't watch windsurf or surf porn. frustrates the living fugg out of me.
i'm with eddie to a great degree. also, dan weiss said it well. specialist gear may be perfect for only the very ideal conditions, but sucks the life out of our sport when mother nature offers about a 90% or so amount of ideal conditions? longer hulls, beefier pulling sails would have added to the abilities of all the sailors during this contest?
seen far too many people drink the kool-aid that the paradise oriented culture has been pushing for decades. sure wish everyone would remember that they lead by example.
BFD about push lops to forward performance concerns etc for the uber pro's. real world wave sailors and others need gear that works over a broader set of conditions.
ideal board for my humble area is a 245-250 by 64 wide onshore wave board. anything smaller, one suffers, at my weight. BTW, i was the only short boarder that did the down winder. my cohort used a kona 11'5". we both used 7.5 sails. he stood off and shot downwind. i grabbed about 200 waves along side him. _________________ www.aerotechsails.com
