I got one for my Kona 9.0. Works great. No cons from me. |

The only con I could see is that it could delay learning to waterstart if you don't already.
I also sail a Kona and a 9.0. I wanted to have an EZ uphaul as I had developed a "tennis elbow" from uphauling. Since then, I learned to waterstart efficiently. When it's windy, it's much easier to waterstart than to uphaul, EZ or not. In low wind, I don't drop the sail much, and when it happens, you can be patient and wait for the sail to slowly raise without putting a lot of effort. Maybe for a large Formula sail however? |

Got one for use with big sails,7.5 and9.0 works real well. Sometimes it's easier to uphaul a big sail than trying to waterstart in marginal wind.
No cons. |

Yes, they work well to break the sail free of the water; then you need to use your arms to pull sail rest of way up. |

Standard uphaul does the same job with a little assistance from the wind. Just need to orient the sail to let the wind start blowing under.

They work as advertised but with good technique they are not necessary.
Grab uphaul, keep your back strait and lean on it. Go slow and let water clear sail.
If you have a very fragile board like my old Falcon be careful of knots in uphaul line getting pinched under mast when sail is down. I got several nasty dings from this happening.
It took me a while to figure out how I was getting the dings. |

EZ uphaul is great for up hauling big sails in windy conditions. What that means for some differs for others. A few competitive FW sailors use the EZ up haul; I know it's hard to believe but true.
Given the choice of being unable to windsurf without it, it really isn't much of a choice. And I don't think it has to come to that. _________________ Support Your Sport. Join US Windsurfing!

I saw several very good sailors using EZ uphauls for their big sails in light winds on the HIHO a few years ago. There is a little bit of adjustment to set the the loop at the right height for you, but it apparently works. There's extra 'stuff' dangling around, and that's the only drawback I can think of.
