|
|
I am looking for some ideas of (where to) windsurfing sites in the Jacksonville FL area.
We will be in the area for the first week or second week in December (still not sure so wind rules in effect).
Staying near Fernandina Beach.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I hear the Atlantic Ocean is pretty close.
Sorry, but as a former Florida resident I couldn't pass that up.

Are you looking for waves or flat water?
Huguenot Park is a nice spot for waves at the point. You can drive on the beach, makes launching very easy. Be careful of high tide as it will go to the dunes. During high tide you can windsurf in the inlet, it's flat. Very shallow at low tide. Potential kite traffic jam if it's a good windy day. Most likely you will be the only windsurfer. Unless I show up, though I've been kiting mostly lately.
Hanna Park at the "poles" is another spot for waves. Could be crowded with surfers though. I've never launched there but I know other people do.
There are a few spots around St. Johns River where you can launch as well. Walter Jones Historic Park (Contry Dock Road) next to Buckman Bridge if it's a north/west wind. Couple of more spots can be found here http://jaxwindsurfing.blogspot.com/
Otherwise any public area at Fernandina Beach will work. Check http://surfjaxpier.com for twice a day surf report pictures or live video cam of the beach. |

I don't know about that; "Lydia" looks a bit worse for wear to me. |

Lydia does look upset
Probably wants a taste of the people putting all of those "things" on her.
Well between sailing with poisonous snakes , flying barbtail rays and bull sharks , great whites , other sharks and the various human hazards maybe one Lydia won't be so bad. (It's all of her friends that hang with her that must be watched)
I won't bite them if they don't bite me..........
Norcom ----- Thanks for the spots and info. I look for waves and flats for the windy days. I will look for you as one of the other windsurfers in the area.
We will be at Ft Clinch and checking whenever the wind is up to get time on the water - Lydia or not
Looking forward to some warm sailing again! |
