Are there any ATMs in La Ventana to get pesos using my USA debit card? I heard Los Bandidos Bar had one. How do their fees compare to ATMs in La Paz? _________________ Windsurfing for life. |

Whatever you do, don't use a debit card in an ATM in Mexico. Use a credit card. The debit card has no protections for you in case the card is lost or stolen. The credit card does, and is the better option to use when travelling.

There was not one when I was there two years ago. But Wyatt should chime in with a proper answer. _________________ __________________________________________

Yeah, Bandidos has an ATM for sure. I have not used but heard the use fee might be somewhat higher than at a bank in La Paz - but I can't confirm that rumor. Also, there may (or may not) be a lower limit on the maximum withdrawal amount.
For reference, my last ATM withdrawal (at Scotiabank in LP) was for 5,000 pesos and the ATM fee was 37.25 pesos.
My advice: get all the pesos you need for at least several weeks while in LP and minimize ATM fees. |

The ATM at Bandidos Bar Rocks. So stoked Roberto and Loana put that in there.
Costs 23 pesos to use which is a lot less than many of the ATMs in La Paz.
And its totally safe don't listen to any of these Baja is dangerous people they have obviously never strayed far from the all inclusives in Cabo.
Also the ATM spits out only 200 peso notes which is awesome, the 500 pesos notes at the La Paz ATMs are a bit of a pain.
You can pull out 5,000 pesos at a time.

FYI, With a Schwab checking account, you can use your ATM/debit card with no transaction fees and you also get the actual published exchange rate (i.e. the rate you see when you search it on Google) of that day. So today you would get 13.03 pesos per dollar. All transaction fees (ATM and forex) are automatically refunded to your account at the end of each month. I'm not aware of any credit card that comes close to this deal.
